One wonders if Intel isn't subsidizing game developers to write code that requires the latest and greatest (that's subjective) processors.

The cost of a game is only one piece of the overall price I'll end up spending to play it.

Above everything else, the advancements science is making on vision is amazing. However poor that 10x10 image is, in time will get better. Personally, I was more intrigued by this story:
    http://www.wired.com/wired/archive/10.09/vision.ht ml
where the scientist is actually inserting probes in the brain to stimulate the nuerons that produce the image we need to see with. It sounds as though he is having better success, assuming that the patient was able to drive a car (albeit limited) after the operation. That 10x10 image doesn't leave me feeling that the patient could get in a car and drive, much less distinguish what he's looking at.

  3. Finally on Combined DVD Burners Coming Soon · · Score: 0

While I'd agree that there should be a single standard for burning DVD's, its about time someone has put it all together in package. I, for one, will be heading out to get this unit when it finally does ship.

I'm sure that other brands will be quick to follow Sony's lead.

  4. Not trolling...but... on Do Digital Photos Endanger History? · · Score: 0

This is a pretty lame story. She has a poor perspective on the future, and simply wants to grasp at the past.

    Let go...

Things must change in order to remain the same.

  5. Cheap entertainment on Advertising in Lieu of Game Fees in MMORPGs? · · Score: 0

The way I evaluate it is simple. Entertainment costs money. Wether its reading a book, working on a hobby, watching a movie, or playing a MMORPG...its all the same.
I played Everquest, at my peak, about 25 hours a week. Now I'm down to about 5 hours a week. Either way, at $10 per month, it boils down to somewhere between $.10 an hour to a high of $.50 an hour. Going to a movie costs AT LEAST $10 (probably closer to $15 including parking and such) which equates to $5/hour. OUCH.
Books are cost effective entertainment, but I much prefer the social aspect of a MMORPG.

    Entertainment costs money.

  6. Re:Subscription Fee on Satellite Radio Is Officially Here · · Score: 0, Redundant

I expect to see dozens of web sites come on-line with XM cracking wares. It won't take long. It didn't with DirecTV, and even with DirecTV's best efforts to snuff them out, they just come back stronger than before.

  7. What a socialist on Ellison Wants National ID Card, Powered By Oracle · · Score: 1

Ellison is a total socialist. He is so far out of touch from the common citizen. His analogy of airline A and airline B is such a load of BS. For starters, he flys on his own private jet, so none of this is of concern to him. Further more, you know his offer for a free database will come with strings attached...like who is going to do all of the development work? Oracle? And are they going to do the development for free? Doubtful.

  8. Re:batteries are dead by now on FEMA To Use Cell Phone Signals To Find Survivors · · Score: 1

Yes, but the number of people with two-way pagers is a mere fraction of those with cell phones. Probably to few to be of any use.

  9. Cell Phones Batteries on FEMA To Use Cell Phone Signals To Find Survivors · · Score: 1

One would hope that those trapped would have realized rescue efforts were going to take several days or more and powered down their cell phones in order to conserve the battery.

But I suppose that is speculative, at best.
