Then you have something misconfigured on your devices. I successfully use iMessage all day long (everyone in my sphere other than my boss uses iDevices) across an iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, Macbook Pro and two Mac Pros... all of them are always in perfect sync with all messages showing on all devices instantly.
Take some time to work on the configuration on your devices. Make sure that they are all signed into the same iCloud account and set to be "Reached by iMessage" at all of your contactable addresses (phone number and email addresses) and are all set to "Start Conversations From" the same address (I use my phone number personally).
Also helps to have "Text Message Forwarding" turned on so you can text from your iPad and Macs.
No - I'm saying that an incredibly small percentage of the population even cares to consider that there are other options beyond the earbuds that come with their device (which are pretty terrible).
Said another way: barely anyone cares about audio quality enough to even purchase headphones/earbuds in the first place. And even if they do, they often worry about the _aesthetics_ of those headphones/earbuds over the sound quality!
Guys: it's really time to go wireless for audio. I have a cheap ($20) pair of bluetooth earbuds for working out and a pair of Beats Wireless Studio headphones for when I want something that sounds better. Both sound better than the cheap earbuds most people use... and I haven't used the 3.5mm jack on any of my devices for a long time.
Bluetooth is the answer... not adapters.
I view this the same way as when apple removed Ethernet ports from their laptops... it was a (not so gentle) nudge toward going completely wifi. Some people wailed and cried... everyone else enjoyed less wires.
There will always be a niche that says "Bluetooth isn't high enough quality for me!"... but that is 0.0001% of the population. 99.999% of the population is fine using whatever crap comes in the box with their phone. I suspect Apple will provide bluetooth earbuds when they remove the 3.5mm jack.
I can't seem to find what the actual bill number is for this bill. I would like to contact my representatives and tell them to vote against this... but I need better info. Anyone have the details on this bill?
While I think this is a good idea... I can kind of understand what he's saying.
Imagine this:
1. Bad guys steal password 2. Bad guys go to gmail.com and enter password 3. Good guy receives notification that approval is needed for a login 4. So used to just clicking Approve for this notification the good guy clicks Approve... and the Bad guys are in.
That scenario couldn't happen with a pin code being sent... because the Bad guys would not receive the pin code and the Good guy wouldn't have anywhere to enter the pin code...
I agree that it's pretty boneheaded... but the point of the parent is that we're all so used to clicking OK/Approve (and we REALLY will be if every website requires this kind of authentication) that many normal people might accidentally click Approve for bad requests...
Duo's solution is awesome... even works perfectly with my Apple Watch! When I try to sign on to a website using Duo I get a message on my Watch that allows me to immediately approve the access... without getting out my phone or fumbling for a key-fob.
Can't wait to see this in action in other places! Hopefully Google will add this capability to Authenticator...
If they implement this properly it will be awesome with smartwatches!
My school uses 2FA through a company called Duo and anytime I go to log in to a school website a notification pops up on my Apple Watch and I just need to touch "Approve" and I'm in. No fumbling for my phone or a key-fob... it's instant and convenient... takes all of the pain out of 2FA.
Every time this comes up we get the same "OMG no!" posts... but no one seems to have any answers for how to fix this.
How do we get organized and fight something like this?
As a law-abiding citizen this scares the hell out of me. The thought that the police would scrape my accounts clean on the suspicion of wrongdoing is just completely insane.
I'm willing to make a sign and stand with other people... but what should the sign say and where should we stand? As far as I know this is a local thing that's backed up by corrupt courts all the way to the top. It's a multiheaded beast and I can't seem to figure out _who_ to even start convincing that this is a bad idea...
I've been using it for about a year and I really like it.
But I'm one of those weirdos that _likes_ targeted advertising... if I'm going to see ads all over my internet I want them to be about stuff I want to buy!
Philosophers have been talking about this idea for a REALLY long time. The idea is called "Simulated Reality": https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/... and many philosophers have mused over it over the years... including big names like Descartes.
Here is a nice little interview that describes some of the basic ideas of how VR relates to philosophy: https://aeon.co/videos/new-rea...
It's funny to me that so many people here are dismissive of the idea or think Musk is off his rocker... you just haven't taken enough philosophy classes (or thought long enough about the ideas!):-)
Pretty funny considering most people would call me an "Apple Fanboy"...
For the record I have an Apple Watch, iPhone, iPad Pro, Mac Pro and Macbook Pro...
No: I just recognize that services cost money... and they are either going to get that money through advertising or subscriptions and its up to the company to decide which way they're going to go (and then, it's up to the consumers to decide if the service is still worth it).
I only use it for playing games (I would never do anything "real" in Windows anyway... regardless of security / update issues) and it works fine. It's plenty fast and the user interface is fine.
For reference: I have it as a clean install on my Mac in a Bootcamp partition. My main issue with it is that I have to hack the AMD drivers to get them to work with my Mac graphics card... but that's a particular issue of my situation and not of Windows 10 in general.
Since I only play games in it I don't concern myself with it updating or phoning home or any of that other crap...
Not using iCloud is your problem. They synchronize through iCloud. Get an iCloud account and put them both on it.

Reliability is pretty good... but you are right that it will fall back to SMS by default (you can turn that off).
All true.
iMessage is also end-to-end encrypted... and already has a huge install base.
Valid reasoning.. You just need to realize what an incredibly small percentage of the population you represent.
As for price: it will continue to come down for Bluetooth headsets and I expect it to accelerate as demand and market grows...
Square already released a new reader that works over bluetooth: https://squareup.com/help/us/e...

You don't when using Duo at least...
Not that I can tell... do you have some documentation stating that?

Google does have a way to to pay to circumvent ads: http://contributor.google.com/
It remains to be seen whether or not it will remove adds from Google Maps...

I actually agree with you - I was just replying to why we don't have similar laws for Adults.
I actually think parents can make a responsible decision for their children in this case.
In fact... this whole story is dubious because I thought children could use online services as long as their parents consented to it...
Because you're old enough to decide for yourself to buy and use the device?
