It seems to me that Angel is a ripoff of "Forever Knight", except I thought the character development was better in FK than in Angel. Nikolaus made a much better reformed vampire, and his position as a police investigator made for much more interesting plots than Angel's home-office-hero setup. Admittedly, FK was a lot more depressing than Angel, as it was a true horror series, and not a primetime action soap opera like Buffy or Angel.
I don't mind that FK and Angel have plots that are so similar, but I think since Angel is plodding down a path already traveled, they should work harder on improving on FK's concept and really standing out, instead of simply recycling.
