That is assuming there are any proceeds right? I meen who would want a bunch of life-deprived, pale computer nerd organs anyways?

I've always liked operating systems. I think the idea of booting up a new OS and having your computer look and act totally diffrent is soooo cool. That's why everytime I hear about a new or old x86 operating system I start banging my head againt my monitor in joyous glee. Well I don't really, but I imagine I am. Well actually that isn't really true either, if it's a microsoft operating system I imagine Bill Gates hanging over a giant pit of acid and me taking . . . never mind.

Anyways, I wanted to express a dream of mine. I dreamed that in the not so distant future companies would place their old operating systems like os/2 1.x or next/openstep on an ftp site or something and let people download them for free(as in beer). This is realted to the Amiga's OS I think because the Amiga OS is old(date wise, not neccesarily technology wise). That does make this post on topic, right? Does that last sentence admit guilt?

Oh god, not this again. The system would hard-lock when this happends! That meens someone could crash this multi-user unix system. On MacOS or Windows 9x that would be no problem because these systems don't attempt to stop you from crashing the computer. On a unix system this is a serious problem. I should be able to give anyone an acount on my box and if I set up permissions right they can't do anything harmfull. They could NOT stop the machine from working. However with this bug that is not so. A malicious user could write a program to exploit that bug and bring down the computer. If it still hasn't been fixed then Apple has something to learn about the unix market.

Hello people of the world! Today, in my basement me and my company Vapor inc. have created a fully modern operating system called cos. It runs all the application that have ever existed at twice their original speed. It never crashes and I'm going to realease an alpha copy next month. Until then however fell free to jack up my stock price into the hundreds of dollars per share range so I can make off a rich bastard . . .

Ohh, I can, I can! There's a small program called preqcc made by the people who created the Team Fortress quake modification. It adds #define and #ifdef to the quakec language and is needed to compile team fortress. Unfortunately this is a win32 console program but I was able to succesfully run it in wine. So thanks to wine I have a really cool quakeworld server now. Mmmm Quake, I haven't played it for like 10 minutes!

If I'm reading this straight it means that anything I post to Mediaone's usenet server becomes their property. I'd think this applies to the web space they offer me too. Can anyone comment?

Shouldn't I as a US citizen know the details of the going ons of my governement? How can I be an informed voter without such information? Confidentiality has no place in a democratic state. If the government feels it can't tell me something then something is obviously wrong. Let's all write our local congress person and demand an amendment to the constituion. The right to be informed.

I guess this opensource stuff spoils me. I'm not used to paying for my software anymore! Paying over $10 for an OS seams just down right outrageous. Me being a poor lazy high school student, $400 is more money then I'm likely to have for a while.
