    There are ways that won't be a problem - non-naturalized/full-blooded(2-3 generations presence) US citizens get first priority over any university slot and funding for all time required for the degree. Have this be conditional for any education required for any US job. When all 250m+ citizens have gotten their degree, then the immigrants can pay full price.

    I say, open the borders, let everybody in, in every profession.

    ...as long as they don't mind a lethal dose of lead administered at 800 f/s. There's a difference between sound immigration policy, and the whoring of our nation. You seem to suggest the latter.

    There are many ways to protect domestic jobs that don't drive them all away. It's called covering every single exit, closing every loophole.

    If you wanted thin *and* environmentalist friendly:

    The X30/X40 series will outlast those knockoff brands- used, but higher quality for the same (or lower) price.

    Except that when Thinkpads cost that much, they:

    1) still had Flexview on them.
    2) were built to a level of quality that made them actually worth $3000.
    3) had features that were functional, and available to all
    4) Drove the point home that "Cheapness is weakness".
    5) They actually gave a damn about the US citizens.

    (even my own pre-selloff T42p came close to that at $2800)

    google is not bound by any free speech doctrine. There are no laws stating they have to host anything.
    They can remove whatever they want at their sole discretion.

    Add this to the long line of screwups from "We're from China, we don't have to care" Lenovo.

    Well, with IPS (aka Flexview) gone from the R/T series, this isn't going to replace it. I'd rather rip out a T61p 14.1" board and place it where the T60p mainboard was.

    Just take a 15" 4:3 T series, put IPS back on it, offer a few rebranded Wacom tablets and call it a day. Call it a T62p. Then recall all W700 units.

    File this with the Reserve Edition as "mistakes given the green light".

    At least those are still IBM and have well-known hardware. It also helps that they have none of the drawbacks of the ideapad/eee wrt quality and do have some of the missing pieces of the ideapad.

    Unions gave you most of what has not taken away in 1981 and onwards. Trying to destroy them only hurts yourself - as these benefits came to places outside unions. It's only gotten worse as unionbusters switched to H1-B/L-1 to finish off the white collar workers.

    I'm not sure why unions act like every person should be guaranteed a job.

    Business would run over union and non-union workers. They have done so, espcially after the 1981 "open season on workers" call made by Reagan wrt PATCO.

    What universe you have to live in for things to be so certain?

    Their job is to ensure that business cannot lord over the worker with impunity. If one ensures they do not fear about their job, they can concentrate more on their work. That's something that's happened with union and non-union workplaces.

    It is when the union is antagonized inside/outside the workplace(to scare people out), stuffing the deck with vetted "No Union" voters(in case they don't have a solid 51%), security forces that are tasked with agitating union supporters(Vance International being one of them), running betting pools that gauge the vote(to determine who goes/stays afterwards), and making sure the company dies before the union gets a contract.

    That's just as bad as Card Check.

    People were OK with Reagan, because even though he was a no tax and spen fiscal liberal, the money he spent was on conservative acceptable WMDs and he solved a problem.

    You forget easily on the ongoing damage to worker's rights. Only now do we have a chance to clean up his mess.
