  1. Yeah! It's the libraries, stupid on Intel Makes Linux Move - Enhancing Compilers · · Score: 1

You'll have to recompile all your libraries, too.

  2. Return the Rio... on Ask Slashdot: Can you Convert RealAudio to MP3? · · Score: 1

...and get a MiniDisc recorder. This is one of the things that MiniDisc is really good for.

I've extolled the virtues of MD many times here, especially when the Rio comes up. In short, the sound quality will be far better, and you'll be able to stuff way more music in your pocket.

  3. www.linux3d.org on Voodoo3 Debut · · Score: 1

Check out http://www.linux3d.org/. This site is run by Daryll Strauss, who does all the glide ports to Linux...

As far as I know, Voodoo is the only consumer-grade 3D hardware support under Linux. (nVidia only has a 2D X server.) Daryll is also porting to Linux/PPC and Alpha..

However, I don't think SLI is supported under Linux...

  4. That's the price of Free software. on glibc 2.1 pulled due to license problems · · Score: 1

The whole purpose of the GPL is to push RMS' political agenda that all software should be free (speech).

If you want to use GPLed software, you have to pay the price: all software based on it must also be GPLed.

If you don't like that, make your own programs, and license them however you wish :^)

  6. I've got one that *records*! on MP3 Adapter for Regular Stereo Equipment · · Score: 1

My MP3 recorder weighs about 8 ounces, is a bit smaller than four stacked 3.5" floppies, and can go about 16 hours between recharges, or about 10 if I'm recording... Storage for each additional 75 minutes of software is less than $3. I could have got this model for about US$220, but I wanted the latest and greatest, so I paid a bit more.

My device: a Sharp 722 MiniDisc recorder. (The $220 model is the recently discounted Sharp 702).. Or you can go Sony if you like...

MD recordings make MP3s sound like crap.. But you can still record them, nonetheless...

  7. Not one mention of RMS... on Newsweek does Linux · · Score: 1

That's really sad.. The poster child of free software from day one was RMS, although esr was definitely there, too.. Not to take anything away from esr, but t's unfortunate that they didn't even mention RMS in the article...
