The real stumper is that Nick approached Jhonen about doing an animated series for them. Considering the previous work he was known for at the time, a la JTHM and Squee, you have to wonder what their ulterior motive was giving Jhonen a series on a childrens' network.
Slashdot is getting around to reporting this story just now, when the news broke about two days ago.... I've come to know Slashdot as usually being ahead of the mainstream media, but this time it seems they've fallen way behind. Or is this another instance of submitted news only being posted now because a particular screener caught the story and deemed it fit to print?
Right around the time the movie version of Akira made its initial sweep through the States, the NES cart of Akira was [quietly] released. What a load of drek that was.... unless _you_ enjoy slowly moseying through the movie script in a Myst-like fashion.
The guy's jumping the gun. ReplayTV _did_ notify its customers of a system upgrade, which included the advert "feature", through a News Message downloaded to the unit -- he should have checked this. The feature was pulled later during a bug fix a few weeks later and no longer exists.
The user agreement he agreed to upon service activation allows Replay service to upgrade the box when they see fit. The loser has no case.
