Most of the time it's some other process that causes my computer to lock up in Windows (in the rare occurences that it does). I've had many many third-party apps kill my computer and I've subsequently dumped them, while I've never had a total freeze from Windows XP (Granted, this is a new phenomenon). However, I have had several unexplainable lockups (big, full-system lockups) in RedHat...
The disheartening trend for CS to be an "easy major" is not common at all universities... I know that the CS program I am enrolled in at my university is considered one of the very hardest majors available at the school.
Crappy standards support or not, it's the site coder's responsibility to make sure the site works on at lease IE/Mozilla. If a site dosen't work on IE6 then you have deficient web site authors.
Bungie has never specified a release date for Halo - I used to go to the local Babbage's and ask when it would be out, then mail that date to the Bungie guys so they could have a good laugh. Bungie has always had a policy of "It'll be done Soon(tm)". After they were acquired by M$, this changed. Now it'll be done Nov. 8, to coincide with the XBox release date (Halo will be a release title). Check out http://halo.bungie.org for more info. BTW, the PC version should be 4-6 months after the XBox vers., but that's no guarantee. They plan on sleeping for a month after launch!
