Even if solar stays at this sort of growth rate, you're still talking nearly 10 years before it hits the levels you're talking about (again, NOT taking into account increases in consumption).
And, honestly, people have been trying to eak out more capacity, longevity and efficiency out of batteries for the last half century or more.
Sure, there are some very promising technologies that are showing big gains in these three areas IN THE LAB. But getting that to a dependable, stable production level is the kind of thing that can consume dozens or hundreds of (parallel) lifetimes of work.
I'm not saying "don't try".
I'm simply of the opinion that there are other areas where money spent NOW will pay off far more and far more rapidly.

And selling someone a 100MBit connection, then telling them you're going to start charging them MORE once they exceed 250GB (which is basically less than 1% total possible throughput), and oh yeah, watching more than a couple HD movies a month will put them over? Oh, and did they mention? They'll be playing with your connection to drop some of your traffic and de-prioritize others (that just happen to belong to direct competitors) so the performance sucks.
You ARE limiting their connection. Because damn few working-class people can afford internet bills in the multiple hundreds of dollars every month.
Dialup, in 2014 is simply unacceptable. You can lump satellite in here as well as they're using a dialup connection for the return loop.
DSL isn't much better unless you're paying through the nose and out the ass for some sort of channel-bonded setup. Even then, you have a choice of ONE provider. Why? Because everyone else is simply reselling the ILEC's service.
Cable is about the only thing approaching a decent "I don't need to think about the speed" connection. Most locales have exactly ONE option. And if their service sucks, or if they're blatantly fucking around with your traffic, toughski shitski.
FIOS is a dead-end. As Verizon has already announced they're no longer building that network out any further. Not to mention their piss poor operation of the FIOS network.
