IBM does do this with some mainframe lines. They have extra processors and storage dormant... when the customer say... gets slashdotted... they can call IBM pay a little fee and get the extra hardware activated. Sorry I don't have any links, but I worked on the Linux/Zseries/S390 advertising for a while.
A while ago, I bought a Dell Laptop for $1,000(USD) and it came - working with all the documentation I would ever need. I was very lucky because I didn't use any escrow or anything. My advice to all of you remaining Ebayers... please, use Escrow. I was one of a lucky few.
I submitted a story about how they are using fetal tissues to cure parkinsons disease, but that isn't news worthy I suppose. Just some stupid history making in progress.
If you like 2000, you would love XP. As long as you:
- got the corporate version that doesn't require the activation
- tweak the registry to get rid of messenger (not hard)
- set it up like Win2K (a simple setting change)
Plus, XP has great D3D support.
Downfall: suck ass Glide support, and you really have to do alot of tweaking to make it the way that most lovers of 2K like.
Pluses: Fast boot - really fast, some of the middle ware is actually not that bad, it is the most stable MS product I have ever seen. I rum my OS hard, I am very impatient and I tend to crash everything, but with XP I have had a hard time crashing it. In the couple of months that I have had it I only crashed it twice.
Well... nobody, really. Except maybe DSL providers. But, there are more and more people who don't have land lines since it is so much cheaper to use cell phones. When/if I get cut off from Cox@Home, I don't even have dial up to fall back on since I dont have a land line - that also means no DSL. If I want to get dial up, I will have to pay for the install, setup, and phone bill charges and on top of that... I have to pay for some stupid ass ISP (another $20 a month) just for dial up. That means that technically, I will be paying more for dial up than I did for Cox@home. Life sucks

hey shitface, this article was posted earlier today. It isn't my fault if the event happened a while ago.

It is even more worth it if you get it for free.
That has to be one of the funniest sigs that I have seen in a long long time.

I am sure they used Nuke energy too. Using humans in large numbers was just to improve the plot and run the toilets.
