Yes, I remember the day that I installed Slack 3.0.0 (also from the Linux Unleashed Book) like it was yesterday. Oh, wait... it was yesterday -- on a ps/note laptop I found. Now I'm screaming at 12.33 BogoMips :)

  2. Trust No One on Visual Studio .Net: Now with more Viruses · · Score: 2, Informative

I wouldn't say that the Trustworthy initiatiave failed, but this will hopefully teach MS the number one lesson in security and viruslessness - trust no one. In the end, my email system is only as virus free as yours. If you are infected by Klez/nimda/... you still harass my bandwidth and my procmail filters. I'm just not dumb enough to run that .exe that h0t_ch1x@hotmail.com just sent me.

Just because MS code and systems are "secure" and "virus-free", as soon as they hand the code off to someone else, the code is only as virus free as their system is.

billy bob: "it's the size of Texas, sir"

people can't deal with actual numbers. not that they really know how big Texas is, but they know it's big. n-football fields is (are?) my favorite frame of reference, the logic being "every Joe Six-pack knows how big a football field is"

  5. R2 Memory Loss = No Trilogy on George Lucas May Be Completely Evil · · Score: 0

So if R2's memory is erased, then there are no Death Star plans, and no holographic message to Ben, Luke remains a whiny moisture farmer spotting womp rats, and Leia is tortured and killed by Vader. That would make for some boring movies.

Unless, of course, Lucas pulls out some retcon like "..umm, they only erased half of his memory". Hopefully he also explains why Anikin/Vader doesn't think to look for his son with his step-brother.

No, M$ did that on their own years ago
