Blind people. In order for EBooks to be read by a verbal reader, the encryption needs to be cracked, or Adobe needs to market their own verbal reader.
IMHO, the DMCA should be struck down because it nullifies fair-use laws. In other words, if I use Sklyarov's software to crack the encryption on an EBook, only to transfer it's contents to a form factor or device that doesn't support EBook format, I have not commited a crime. However, if I then transfer the contents to a friend, I have breached the copyright on the product, and should be sued.
I'm guaranteed, under fair use laws, the ability to transcribe copyrighted materials into another form for my own use.
Also, if Sklyarov is found guilty, doesn't that mean that authors of CD rippers can also be arrested? CD rippers do essentially the same thing: they transfer the copyrighted materials into a more portable format.
