It seems the british government has decided that it is illegal for people to share their internet connection with their neighbours via wireless. This is purely to protect the business of corporate broadband wireless providers. Did somebody say government sponsored monopoly?

  2. AMEN! on Web No Longer Eclectic? · · Score: 0

And if slashdot weren't enough to prove the web is no longer eclectic, just look at the world of piracy. For instance, if you are a discerning watcher of non-pornographic movies, the selection is worse than you'll find at the average suburban video store. I tried to find Richard Linklaters seminal movie "Slacker". No luck. How about his much less seminal, but more well know "dazed and confused"? Second half only. How about the work of well known auteurs, or would be auteurs, like Hal Hartley? Nope. Krzysztof Kieslowski's incredible "Three Colors" series? Not even one.

Of course, if I weren't so discerning, I'd have no trouble finding stolen entertainment. I typed in the matrix and was overwhelmed with locations for download. This for an underbudgeted action movie, that pretends to be philosophically deep, as though solipsism were even vaguely interesting to anyone but first yeat philosophy students who haven't yet attended their first class. How about a film that does have some genuine depth: Gattaca. (which also has better looking stars, IMO, although women will debate me on Keanu vs. Ethan.) No Gattaca.

In short, there is no room on the internet for people with eclectic tastes, and the willingness to steal intellectual property.

I'm afraed I have my hands a bit full right now. Despite the time we spent testin slash on banjo, we didn't find any bugs. Acutally, I'm startig to think it might be a good idea to learn a bit about how real programmers test code. Since amazon and other sites with more complex code bases seem to ba able to updatre their code without breaking everything, I guess they must have some method of ensuring that their code actually workds. Anyway, I'm sure if you spend the next two years bugging me a bout this, I'll be happy to ignore you, or complain that users are never satisfied. Plus your idea won't scale. But thanks for the input --Rod "Cmbr. Taco" Malda
