  1. Imagine this! on Manned Mars Mission Some Way Off · · Score: 0

Linus + RMS + ESR + Larry Wall + Maddog.

Damn...that would be eleet. But it would also be disastrous.

Just imagine the tremendous fights between Linus and RMS.

And the spaceship would better be running a free system, otherwise RMS's presence could be catastrophic! And please, don't forget to mention "GNU" before the name of the actual OS.

  2. Ask the students how good the teachers are. on Questions to Ask University CS Departments? · · Score: 0

Talk to undergraduate students about their teachers. A teacher may be a great researcher, but he may also be a very lousy teacher (something common in my department), with no teaching skills whatsoever.

  3. Re:Another suggestion... on Questions to Ask University CS Departments? · · Score: 0

Yeah, I guess this is THE question you should be asking. I am a 3rd year CS student, and the proportion in my class is 3/50. It's defenitely a Bad Thing when you step into the lab and see nothin but ugly geeks starring at their monitors. Sad, but true. I hope this changes some day...

  4. mRNA codon? on New Amino Acid Discovered · · Score: 0

Actually I was interested in knowing which is/are the mRNA three-letter code for this new aminoacid. Could not find it in the link. Any ideas?

  5. Fanatism on RMS Replies to "The Stallman Factor" · · Score: 0

I had the chance and privilege to watch one of RMS talks in 2001, and I must confess it was very inspiring and brilliant. Just as Linus stated in his book, I honestly believe that Stallman diserves a monument in his honour for creating the GPL and the whole concept behind Free Software. However, sometimes I feel that his fanaticism takes control over him, stopping him from doing what is really important because of some MINOR issue: the Linux vs. GNU/Linux one. I really believe that the word RMS should incorporate, at least a bit, is "relaxation". Relax man! Dont take things to seriously! In this matter, my opinion is closer to Linus's.

  6. Free software propaganda on MS Cites National Security to Justify Closed Source · · Score: 0

I wonder if they dont realize the free software propaganda they are making with these statements... It's about time the US government realizes the risk surrounding Microsoft products and go open source. Things here in Brazil are starting (very slowly, of course) to move that way.

  8. Unfeasible! on Humans Will Sail To The Stars · · Score: 1

That's what I have to say about the idea this article proposes. As you all have noted, the linguistical, sociological, biological, MOTIVATIONAL and technological implications are too great! A mission such as this would require TREMENDOUS planning and even then, the risks would still be too great.

I think that in our current technological state, to plan such an endeavour is a big waste of time. I see the importance of spreading the human race throughout the galaxy, but it seems to me we still have to wait some time, until a new travelling technology (black-holes?) is created or the research in crio-sleep makes some progress.

The idea of mantaining a human culture isolated in outer space for hundreds or even thousands os years is naive
