Those little sets are everywhere in a few coffee shops around here. Oddly enough with all the rinky-dink games they have(some feature nudity in them like Gals Panic), they never seem to be idle.

Of course, there's a Centipede machine at another coffee shop I know of that is never idle either.

I hope someday to see a MAME cabinet/cocktail at a coffeeshop so I could play alllll day long from a selection of 400+ games.

  7. What's with these goofy slashdot articles? on Why Does The Universe Exist? · · Score: 2

"Why should we vote?" "Why does the universe exist?"

A lot of these articles seem to be questions that Bill Nye gets from 8-year old kids on his show. Must be a slow week.

Reminds me of how the Infocom games were avaialble for the TI-994/A, and they were just as good as the Appple 2 versions, with that amazing text parser. Did Infocom have something like the Sierra thing?

It became wayyy to e-commercy and less of a nice, free usenet reader. I mean, any search you do gives you a dumb link on shopping for it.

"Find great deals on KILLING YOUR PARENTS on deja.com!" Endless fun.

  20. hmm on Illusionary LED clock · · Score: 2

This is exactly how the Adventurevision worked. It had a row of LEDs and a rotating mirror thing. The result? A cheap display. As the mirror rotated, the LEds flashed to make the image, REALLY fast.

  21. Scout Droid on Lego Mindstorms AT-AT · · Score: 2

I bought the R2D2 set from Toys R Us since it was on sale for $50. It is by no means part of the official Lego mindstorms set. The scout core(just like on the ATAT) only has a light sensor, and 1 motor that can go forwards/backwards. I should have saved my $50 towards a real mindstorms setup. I do like the new 10 and 20 tooth gears though. Good for making new transmissions.

  22. Robot Wars on BattleBots Going Mainstream · · Score: 2

Robot Wars with Lister is SUCH a better show. IT isn't so ESPNlike with BattleBots. Also, it's an hour long with various competitions, not just 1 on 1. Mind you the house robots are nearly impossible to beat, but it makes the show much more enjoyable. The tug of war and king of the hill competitions are fun.

When I saw a quick snippet of it on the news, it looked no more interesting than those dogs you see in toy stores that flip around, etc. This is just a bit more advanced. It walked around a bit haphazardly and made all sorts of whining sounds from the stepper motors.

I'd rather spend $2000 on a beowulf cluster of Lego Mindstorms sets and make a 1/2 scale Dalek(hey, they even have a camera for Lego now!) and be my own Davros.
