The only differences is that you have to pay for the goods. It's called the State Fair Computer Sale. Great place to find amazing deals like books on Netscape 2.0, and DOS 5.0.
Don't a lot of daemons and the like send messages straight to root for reports, etc?
I look at it this way. If I'm checking email every 20 minutes in Outlook Express, Netscape mail, etc, my password's being sent out in the clear every 20 minutes between x routers. A simple packet sniffing can grab the password easily. Once did it on a company lan with Web(or was it Net?)Xray where I had to time it just right since it was a crippled demo version.
How long do you think it will take before SSL,etc become totally widespread? I'd like to be able to use SSL in Outlook Express with my POP mail accounts, but I never had any luck with it(I'm assuming it's not turned on). But there's always SecureCRT for shell account usage and pine.
Just out of curiousity, how much power does that chip have? I have an old Zeos Palmtop(that runs dos pretty good) that ran off of 2 1.5 volt batteries. Mind you, it only lasted a half hour and couldn't play a movie. You could play Gauntlet 2 on it with a bit of tweaking.
No, please! NO!@#!@# Coworker here had a bag of these strange candies on a stick from Mexico. they were brownish colored, and looked all crystal like.
The problem? They LITERALLY smelled like a petting zoo. The most disgusting candy I have ever come in contact with in my life. Can't remember for the life of me what the name was, but I couldn't bring myself to eat it.
I dunno about the rest of the USA, but are there any arcades left in existence? I remember almost 20 years ago there was Chuck E Cheese's(before it was 99& kiddie/skee-ball games), Cirucs, Showbizz pizza place, and a couple others. Wall to wall of fun video games. Now you only see 1 or 2 games in movie theaters, etc. Blah. I miss the old days.
Hey, my laptop has that. It's called turning OFF the laptop. You see, when I'm not using the processor, i just shut it down. Hence, the battery is not used! My car gets better gas mileage when I don't let it idle in the praking lot all day when not in use!
Aha, longer battery life when you don't use the processor...
So you're saying that he on EVERY slashdot story possible, said something that the majority would agree with(and hence moderate up), or just made a funny? Extra bonus if you post early.
Sometimes slashdot reminds me of a typical Jenny Jones show. They often get the "freak" shows going(goths, etc) and are publicly made fun of by the audience. But as soon as the goth/freak/whatever talks about being an individual, everyone claps for him/her. Proof enough that the audience will clap for anyhting, provided you word it right.
That has to be one of the WORST ideas I have heard of. Putting monetary squabbles into web protocols? Come on. That sounds more like CompuServe's idea. You had to pay more to play the games, etc. Look where they are now.
There are good ways to charge for service rendered, and we need them so long as there is network congestion. One proposal I saw years ago (sorry, too long, no pointer) is that each packet carry a bid indicating how much the sender will pay to have it sent. In each time slice, routers transmit the highest-bid packets and bill them all at the rate of the lowest bid transmitted. (Billing is accumulated and done in per-day chunks or something, not with additional packets.)
Did you ever look at CompuServe's prices back in the '80s? They were charging(IIRC, someone correct me) 6 bucks AN HOUR, and that's with 1200 baud access.
I wish there was a stricter law on DJs who find it necessary to talk over beginnings of songs. Or in worse cases on Friday and Saturday nights, holding telephone conversations with dumb listeners before the vocals kick in. Hey now, the beginning 20 seconds of a song is part of the song too, so why do the DJs have to trample over it? And yes, we know what station we are listening to, so we don't need to be reminded on every song.
I miss Rev 105. They woulnd't do that shit(okay, maybe they did, it's been a while)
Was this the same SCAM! magazine that, in one issue, was selling a package of donuts with lye injected with them? Had its own little custom reader program?
Hey! That's my page! I'm glad I'm not the only one that remembered this great RPG on a not-so-great computer system. I played that game for HOURS on end.

(and why would root be reading mail at all).

Wouldn't it be more appropriate to ask if Linux supports dual athlons?
So when all those people were giving me the finger, what they were really meaning to say was "Someone wants to speak to you!"
So in the UK could they put it on two fingers(middle and index) just to make it look derogatory?
Didn't that catch phrase come from Mr. Rogers?
What do you mean "can we say"? What does this phrase mean?

So that weird guy in the zipped up coat on the bus wasn't playing with himself, but instead playing game? I would have never known!
.... Game controls built into the pockets... Instead of being bored while on the bus or in class, you can be raising your kill count in Quake...
By maniupulating the mouse's roller wheel(if available), you can shop for whatever items you want. Shopping is 1 roll away!

Would the book have prevented oh-so-many IPOs from starting up?

If he lingers at the bottom of the mountain too long, does that monster come after him and eat him up?

C'mon we have it good!
IIRC the "delete" key on the Apple // computers actually did a backspace.
I still have my Zeos Pocket PC. It had TWO type 1 PCMICA cards. Pretty neat little thing. More info at http://british.nerp.net/palmtop.html
Even if there's no way to take a trip home with it, would it be a cheaper way to build the ISS and shoot up satellites?
No, I'm not Lord British from the BBSing days, nor did I create Ultima.

Didn't they scrap a whole version of Lesiure Suit Larry just the same?
