Has Sirius thought this out. They state that part 15 devices would harm the ability of people in rural areas from getting the programming offered by digital satilite radio. I guess they think that Red Neckville is going to go nuts deploying 2.4GHz equipment.
The ISM (2.4GHz) band is also for amateur use. If they persist lets all get Technician class licenses (no code needed) and start talking with 200 Watt rigs. Or better yet do moon bounce with 1500 Watts. They think they have probelms now from 1 watt 802.11b equipment! Check this out at:

I think I read somewhere that the most common name for a computer on the Internet was frodo. We name our after mythological gods/people/places/beasts. ie dragon, excalibur, pegasus, sairys, rhiannon, galadriel, etc.
The Spectrum analyzer traces I get from my WAP 11 don't show this out of band noise. Maybe you have a bad unit. I'll follow up with Pics later tonight.
What I want is a pizza style box that I can set my monitor on. Most computers used to be this way. Apple II, Apple///, IBM PC, AT. Sun used to make several really sexy boxen. Sparc 2, 5, 10, 20. They even found room to put in sound, plug in video cards, Network adapters, CD Rom drives, etc. I'm sick of tower cases. Too unstable. Just think what would happen if an ant hyjacked a butterfly and flew into one.
I have to agree, Wider is better.
I have had one of these fans cooling my sterio for years. I got mine as a sample while working for a crystal manufacurer in 1984. It makes VERY little noise but does not even begin to move enough air to cool a modern CPU. These new ones would have to be 10 times more powerful.
I hope all the crap on Slashdot hasn't put you off this. I started with electronics back in the bad old days 1979. I have over the years used and even purchased several oscilloscopes. I currently use two HP 1725 275MHz Scopes. I love these units and just about any peice of HP test equipment. Most of the HP equipment I have is over 15 years old and still works great. I paid $550 for the first on in 1991 and $100 for the second one on ebay. The second one had a minor problem with the verical deflection I had to fix. I would still like to do what you are doing and build/buy a PC based scope. The hp's do there job well but won't store a trace. Also PC can do FFTs and other stuff. Let me know how you fair with this project. What you learn building this may be worth much more than a good Oscilloscope.
PS: I might have asked the same question on slashdot. Not a reflection on you or your knowledge. More info from other people can't hurt. There are never any dumb questions.
I had kept upgrading the internal Hardware in the case I got for the first PC I built for myself back in 1985. Looked identical to a 5150 Case. A 5160 case is easer because of the 8 slot design. The PC only had 5 slots and the spacing was wider than that used on modern MBs. The Last MB I had in the old case was a Pentium 133MHz. Went to a tower case in 1998. Got 13 Years of use out of the old case! I am resurecting the old machine with a 486-100MHz MB for running some of the old games I had back in the early 90's.
Can't decoding and storing DVD data on your hard drive be called "Space Shifting" just like transfering your CD audio to a mp3 player?
