    ..it was still fresh.

I am in IT, and have noticed something that seems to happen specifically to minorities: they are always eventually perceived as not being team players or are otherwise difficult to deal with.

It is NEVER their technical expertise or breadth of knowledge that leads to their involuntary separation, or failure to be promoted or land large prestigious projects. They just seem to have, or develop over time, a bad attitude. Why? Is it perception, or is how people work with you the only intangible business is prepared to accept as truth?

Either way it has been my lot to witness this at least three times. Well meaning black men hired, working well or better than the norm. Some length of time later they all seem to go bad. Theft, insubordination, or they just peeter out and become part of the herd. Strangely, the reason that gets passed around is always an intangible like: "bad" attitude.

Or maybe I'm just full of it

Everytime I rolled out a config with some small error or missing component or feature someone found it and complained. I thought it was just coincidence or takig too long to path. Noppers, they have fingers and will click anything with a shorcut or [OK] button.

The latest gotcha for our dept. was the user who discovered that ".jpe" files were not opening. Two days of my life I will never get back :-(

I have personally witnessed my employers -- educational institutions, wasting water by the metric tonne with little regard for cost. I've joked about the pump rooms with inches of water on the floor ( where we stored defunct computer equipment) 24/7 and makeshift shields to prevent the "weepage" from spraying the motors.

The cost is "mostly" a fixed cost for large institutional customers in my region, and unless the cost signifigantly changes and draws attention to itself, nothing will be done. You have to be a maintanance worker to see teh waste firsthand, or be psychic.

By the by, I'm about to purchase my first home, and plan on replacing all the major fixtures and appliances with more enviro friendly counterparts as I can because I do care. Plus they DO lower bills. I plan to live a long time, I'll get my money's worth.
