  1. Re:Carbon sequestration, the myth that won't die on Fracked Shale Could Sequester Carbon Dioxide · · Score: 1

    Well said!

I've also been here a little while (see six digit ID) and have worked on a pilot carbon sequestration well as a geologist. The methods, problems and associated infrastructure are out the door in terms of cost. There really is only wind and solar in combination with other renewables as you described as the solution to future energy. It's just getting over the momentum of entrenched fossil fuel interests.

And THAT will require a lot of energy on our part.

No links OK with me, thanks for the leads. These kids these days want everything all hot linked and handed to them. Get off my lawn! Just go look it up on the gOOgles. ;^)

    DRIVE RIGHT! PASS LEFT!
Signs with this should be up under every speed limit sign and cops should be giving tickets for it at every opportunity until people get it. It's already on your drivers test.

I remember a couple times in heavy traffic - having a long view of the next mile or two of traffic, and seeing a much larger portion of the cars in the left lane...while the right lane moved along consistently faster. People equate the left lane with the 'fast' lane.

It is, but only if it isn't all overcrowded with lemmings.

What?! Images contain huge amounts of info vs. a generalized topo map made 'from' the imagery. And they're a date-specific snapshot at high resolution. Topo's are made and updated from multiple imagery, but resolution is much lower.

    Try LandSat.com.

Based in Flagstaff, they have the cheapest airphoto/satellite coverage around. I haven't checked their resolution vs. Google for Northern AZ, but know they often have better. I'll bet they'll probably comp you the coverage if you let them know your needs.

I have to agree - and note the same problem with Excell and Firefox being the worst offenders in staying in every desktop. "Kill" rocks too.

Nicely said, and insightful I wouldn't hide behind AC for that. There's no one pulling strings, no great tin foil conspiracy - it's just the money/power of corporations (normal persons in supreme court precedent) is like the money and power of the royalty of old, and the upper crust of Latin american (and other) societies - and is concentrated in the hands of a few, while the serfs, commoners, campesinos, mestizos, scrape along with some crumbs, and a small middle class thinks it's doing ok because look how many live so badly and have such dis-advantage. It's disheartening. And having the perspective to see it is rare.

In the R&D phase of any new technology costs are larger than when the technology is mature. The gov't (which is/represents the rest of us) has an interest in developing this technology. It will be for the greater good in the longer run. Hence gov't grants to R&D other alternative energies. Start-up cash. You get to be a venture capitalist via gov't grants/loans. Happens all the time in pharma, autos, defense, oil industry. And BTW we don't pay that much in taxes for what we get back: roads, fire, police, infrastructure, schools. That's what civilization brings - lots of folks living close together and sharing the load. If you don't directly or indirectly benefit from our shared infrastructuted I'd be mighty surprised.
