money gives you flexibility, but don't get caught up with saving before hand. your free will will give you more flexibility. my suggestion:
freelance as you go
i've been travelling for a year and a half. coming from canada i've worked in netherlands, spain, and australia. i've got a dutch passport, and i can work in australia with a temporary visa. there are all sorts of visas/loop-holes/exeptions in every country that will allow you to work, or let you invoice from outside the country. i arrived in each country with around $1000. it's easy to live cheap, and most other travellers are living off $20 a day. if you run out of money put it on your credit card, and pay it off when you hook up with a contract.
don't bother setting up jobs before hand. you'll meet people along the way. if you have skills, let people know what they are, and you'll find work. i'm not doing my ideal work. i'm just doing php/sql programming. even still, you can find contracts doing html grunt work that will let you pay your bills, and save up for the plane fight to the next location. the only tricky thing is taxes.
i've been able to do my work on my laptop, and a portfolio of work has been essential to finding new gigs.
you're traveling the world to experience differnent cultures. if you don't have attachments (kids, house, etc) then it's pretty easy to just wing it, and it's more fun. you also don't know what a country is going to be like until you get there, so don't bind yourself a pre-determined situation. think about jobs when you get there, the instinct to survive will kick in when needed. a year and a half and i'm having the time of my life. just GO!
one more reason that i like having colored money is when i'm in a dodgy neighborhood. when i need to check for how much cash i've got i just glance at the top of my wallet. i don't have to open it up and read all the numbers of each bill in plain sight of everyone around me. if someone sees that i'm carrying say $400 it might put an idea in their head.
Any group that has planned this complicated terrorist attack in such a calculated fashion must be expecting a retaliation from the US, and ALOT of the other first world countries. What I am wondering is what they have planned for the aftermath. What are they going to do to the swift responce that is sure to follow.
The terrorist group that has organized this attack is probably the largest and most organized. But how big are they? they are by no means in size and sophistication as the US, and cannot fight face to face, but will have instead prepared an other extreme action.
The attacks today were prime targets for 2 reasons. Casualties, and media impact. This has severely shocked America and the rest of the world. What must be done in the future to produce such horrific results?
It's not the (obvious) concept of a hierachical menu that makes ipods easy to use it's the implementation.
