I agree that inhaled anthrax is a serious concern, and is very lethal. Check out BW History and note in particular on the The Sverdlovsk Incident: April 2, 1979 "...The discovery was also made that the incubation period for inhalation anthrax was two to forty-five days. This finding was in vast contrast to the animal studies that indicated that the incubation period was between two to six days. These findings imply that antibiotics might be administered." Mortality in that incident was 80%, and could have been lower if treated properly. Another useful link is Homeland Security with tons of great information on all forms of threats to the US. If you want something else to worry about, check out the info here on TOPOFF, where a civil defense preparedness simulation in May 2000 failed to contain an attack using plague in Denver. It is good to worry about, and I hope we get our civil defense preparedness in better order. Russ

I'm not sure how a discussion of bimetrics devolved into a rant on biological warfare, but I thought it might be useful to add some factual information into this hysteria. As far as I can tell, the sole source provider of Anthrax vaccine is a company called Bioport. ..."easy to produce", well not safely, and not easy to produce in a distribution form that is dangerous in plague proportions. Aum Shinrikyo has tried at least 8 times in Japan to release anthrax spores in various modes, without a single infection. ..."when inhaled is nearly 100% fatal once symptoms occur, regardless of treatment" It is treatable and not anywhere near as fatal as you indicate. Check out US Center for Disease Control's Page on Anthrax for the real scoop. ..."the US government isn't letting anyone but the military be vaccinated!" I think others have successfully refuted this statement, but you will find the animal vaccine in many vetrinary catalogs. The vaccine is rarely asked for, and probably not recommended unless you face a real threat.

I'm pretty new to this forumn, and have no history of Katz. I found while I was reading the article I was asking myself "What is his point?", and "Where is he going with this?". The answer sadly was, he had no point, and it went no where. It's not that you either are for it or against it, but I would expect him to at least identify the salient points. I guess I wouldn't waste my time writing about something if I didn't have anything to say about it.

You are wrong. The strongest possible response is neccesary, such that any would be terrorist would think twice, no three times before contemplating it again. Weakness now would only encourage this to happen again.
This is an act of war, and must be treated as such. We can sue for peace once the mongrels are baying from beneath our boots. I say we should identify the culprits, and let slip the dogs of war! We didn't become the only super power in the world by rolling over.

    I feel better.
