I whole-heartedly agree. While I am up in Canada, the tax system is far worse than your average W-2, nevermind about being a corporation.
Since I have gone back to working for a company as simple, salaried code monkey I get my paycheque, family, piece of mind and a 9 - 5 job. Let the #$%^& accountant figure out my taxes!
I was doing reasonably well consulting but I found myself doing a TON of work that was nothing more than pushing papers around on my desk and trying to make some sense of that crazy government garbage speak they all seem to speak. On average (I had about 7 or 8 projects going at once most of the time) I would still have at least 4 hours of updating billing and going through receipts.
Had just about enough of that.
With the use of an Internet Application Server and a JVM and a few drivers you can use Oracle Financials, HR etc..
Oracle 9i I believe is getting certified on Redhat 7.2. I have tried this at home and on a large scale this is relatively easy, although I am sure there are a lot of companies that will do it for you for a lot $$$$.
Apache for the web server- also on Linux.
Oracle's Application server 9i- also on Linux
Clients access modules through Netscape! or any other Java enabled browser of version 1.1.8. or later.
Lotsa power and allows for a huge system.
Oracle also now has Real Application Clustering so it can be MASSIVE. I have seen it in action.
So if you hae a few extra millions...no one does it bigger.
I wonder if these attacks could have happened if this group of insane maniacs had no Internet access. I have seen some stories about how Usama bin Ladin uses messages embedded in jpgs and posts coded messages on porn sites and sports chat sites. Not to mention timing flights and operatives etc. How can we stop suicidal crazies like this? My heart and prayers are with all the victims, families, rescuers and innocent American citizens who have had to be a part of this disaster. I think the world will be different after today.
