perhaps use proftp ?
also once you have a slackware box up and running you basically leave it alone for months on end thus making the problem less of a reality. Also, if you are that paranoid to not be able to trust your own connection, which you prob. shouldn't anyway, download updates from a different place each time so they'll be too confused to know which one to tap.
eh i run the "normal" kernel and fail to see your problem...running enlightenment, 6 virtual screens...running several mozilla windows, consoles, xmms, vmware running openbsd and 1 vmware running win2k to watch the star wars ep2 trailer...while that happens i can compile a kernel and downsample mp3s for my player...this is a 1.2ghz athlon 512mb ram, ide as well...so um what was your point ?
heh i compiled 2.4.11 when it came out since the xfs patch was done...i hadn't restarted, didn't want to waste the uptime but next time i did i had a new entry in lilo...see now i get a few extra days of uptime without the headache:-) tho the 2.4.12 xfs patches aren't out yet so i can't compile the new one shucks.
