...because restricting substances makes them go away right?
Have you not been paying attention the the INCREASE in availability and potency of "illegal controlled substances" in the last 30 years of teh Wor ahn Drugz?
"Apple has chosen a path that delivers a complete, integrated customer solution. "
Ah an appliance where the OEM dictates what you get. I see.
"consumers have not realized they should demand is a good user experience. "
Uh huh. Apple is free of bugs. Right.
Mac is all about the UI and the UI only -- I'm not that stupid to spend the Apple hardware tax on pretty pictures and pointers and icons.
Who cares if a Ferrari has a better "user experience" than a Honda? You can justify all you want about "style" and "performance" and all you're doing is perpetuating the marketing self-gratification mythology. You're still on the same freeway going 65.
I have seen Macs do stupid buggy things just like PCs do. If you think you can type faster or click and drag faster -- Apple will be there to happily take those extra bills from your wallet to make you feel better about yourself.
The APple hardware monopoly is glanced over time and time again by Mac zealots as they throw stones at PCs.
With a PC I have choices: AMD vs Intel, nVidia vs ATI, Tyan vs ASUS, Corsair vs Kingston, WD vs Seagate, XP vs Fedora vs BSD vs SUSE, etc. etc. etc.
With Macs I have have what Apple blesses. "See how seamlessly it works!?" Yeah, because you only support that hardware, duh. I had to buy extra storage for various servers we have (which predate my arrival) and a 500GB SATA drive from Apple is $400; I can get a 500GB SATA for a PC for $220.
"Today I watched my dear father struggle for four hours (4! whole hours) trying to make his complicated new digital camera work with Windows XP. I could not believe the complications he experienced. On a Mac, this would have been simple, easy, intuitive."
How do you explain the thousands of others who can?
It's easy on a Mac because they dictate which cameras will work. Some freedom of choice.

"The vast majority of Macs come with OS X pre-installed, and actually can't be sold without it. Leading Apple hardware makers can't freely advertise Macs sold without OS X, or with an alternative OS such as Linux, without having to pay Apple significantly more for every other OEM license they ship. That's why all Macs prominently repeat their own version of the cult-like phrase 'Apple recommends OS X,' as if there were a choice in the matter and they thought it would be helpful to provide some guidance... Apple's current Get a Mac advertising campaign doesn't compare Mac OS X to Windows, it compares the complete experience of a Mac with that of a PC. After all, OS X is only half of what's wrong with the Macs as a product."
With VMWare giving away their Player, the game has changed. OS bigotry is a tired game played by people who have too much time on their hands.
The reality is that Windows supports more hardware out of the box than any flavor of *nix does because there's an enconomic incentive to support the hardware. Why did we have to wait YEARS for any flavor of *nix to support 802.11 let alone WPA without jumping through hoops and *gasp* loading a Windows NDIS driver via a wrapper and *still* having to hack config files manually?
I have a RAID controler that I'm still waiting for a *nix driver.
I'm done.
Now I boot with Windows (which license came with the machine) to run Fedora in a VM -- ALL my hardware is supported and when I want to upgrade my hardware, my VM config does not change one iota. Clean.
Thank you VMWare for bringing sanity to this petty flame war.
And endanger every flying aircraft using GPS? Please. GPS recievers have been able to correct for SA *before* it was turned off. It's a non issue. Plus, if the EU operators of the competing Galeleio system don't agree with Napoleon they don't have to cooperate -- their system would just keep on chugging away.
Nope. missles also have IRS (inertial nav) systems to augment GPS signal loss. Current aircraft can go housr without GPS running on IRS an no signficant loss of precision.
> I understand the Positive Train Control part; you need to be able to tell where a train is in order to tell it what to do.
San Francisco Muni drivers could use all they help they can get. Just about got killed this morning when the train did two emergency stops sending people flying.
This all heppend after the driver finally turned off his right turn signal after being in the tunnel for 5 minutes (they're surface trams and underground part of their routes).
"Sorry, uh... computer glitch...."
My a**.
Think about the implications if WAAS (and soon-to-arrive LAAS) is decommissioned -- the FAA has already issued WAAS-based LPV approach plates for IFR ops. Switching to another system would cause a huge momentum change in a critical sector of the safe operation of our airways.
The FAA upset thousands of pilots when they pulled the plug on TIS (Traffic Information Service) when approach radars (ASR 9 to ASR11) were upgraded and their investment in TIS equipment was obviated -- the one they chose, ADS-B (Automatic Dependent Surveillance - Broadcast) provides more data and is more scalable. Essentially instead of using radars and transponder return codes to figure out who's who, let the aircraft broadcast their position s constantly without having to wait for a radara sweep. But I digress.
Same with these conflicting solutions -- one my be "better" in terms of feature set but the other has momentum. MP3 vs OGG anyone? Beta vs VHS?
I'd rather have a standard augmented data-channel and ground based "satellites" to allow my portable GPS to function in the skyscraper canyons and provide local traffic and business lookups so that I don't need to subscribe to CD/DVD updates when the data could just be real-time.
If you produce a physical product which malfunctions you are liable for damages it causes. Why is software a protected class of products from being held responsible for its non-performance?

Oh. What age it it considerd paedophilia then? It's at least statutory rape. That's much better.

Tell it to Galileo, Jews, and the Native Americans. I think they have a different view on the matter.

That would be paedophilia if you were still unclear about that.

"No."
"Well, we need you to install it so we can diagnose your problem."

More often than not the upgrade is better, it's the 5% of times when it's a pain. Due to software development and support being a resource hog, vendors are quick to abandon older versions instead of developting patch trains for multiple releases.
The world doesn't run on what's best, it runs on what it knows.
The harsh reality is that non-tech savvy employees cannot or will not adapt to non-Exchange (or Notes, et al) environment. If it's not what they know, they're less than productive and all you do is hear the quota carrying fratboys (who run the show) whine.
I've seen several robust infrastructures shut down because of user complaints of it being "different" and they can't use their favorite Outhouse add-on. It's sad, but true.
It's only the exceptional company leadership which can support a superior solution.

"Who *really* cares what motherboard you have, as long as it does its job ?"
To which I respond: Who *really* cares what UI you have, as long as it does its job ?
I can use XP and Linux on hardware which costs a fraction of Apple's offerings.
What job does OS X do that the others don't?
"Either you're smoking something illegal, or you're woefully uninformed."
The point is that If you want to run OS X you have FEWER choices in hardware and you'll pay a premium for it.
Because I can use any UI, I choose to use hardware and UIs which cost much less.
If your life revolves around an overpriced UI, you are a marketing tool.

As opposed to the current accuracy of handheld devices to be around 1m? When something bad happens, 1m matters not.

What's the point of the RICO statutes if it's randomly enforced?
The Catholic Church knowingly traffiked paedophiles interstate and internationally. Why wasn't it invoked then?

Disney is old-school unionized workforce and outsources whenever it can. Pixar is not that at all.
Can't miss.
