The article doesn't seem too revealing about how the technology works, but if it's something similar to a CD, does that mean that the tinyist scratch will cause massive data loss? On a CD, little scratches aren't so bad, but comparitively, a tiny scratch on a CD would be...what, 150 times worse on this (ie. a deep gouge)? Something to think about... If it's too sensitive to scratches, mabye it won't be as useful as they hope/think.
^H is the ASCII (??) character for backspace. ^? is also used on some systems, along with a few others... Basically it's like writing a correction into the statement without taking what was originally there. It's meant, in this case, to be a joke... He started to write digital rights denial and changed it, at the last minute, to management, for politically correct reasons... Ha, ha. I've only seen like two instances where this was actually very funny;-)
Anyone who was an ATT@home customer is now an ATTbi customer and faces the 1.5 Meg cap. I hate it, coming from the nice 7 Megabit @home netowrk, but oh well, it's better than dialup... More info here.
Actually, most GPS equiptment does tell you how deep a person lies. The problem is that there would be no way to get a GPS signal to a GPS unit burried under all that rubble. GPS's are that accurate, BTW, I have seen mine be acurate to within 13 feet, and heard of people who have gotten it to 5 or 6 on a good day. I can grab my GPS, make a lat/lon point, leave some footprints, come back the next day (using the point I made earlier) and be less than one step away from where I was. Of course, I'm not under tons of rubble.
