Geez, people, I really do not think this has anything to do with a profession. IT or not, I hang out with people from my current job - ones that I like as people. Some are from IT, others are from other prts of the company. I still get together on regular basis with most of the IT department from a few jobs ago. And I still could care less about anyone from one of my other jobs (buncha idiots). It's not about what you do, it's about who you are and who your co-workers are.

If everybody did what you did it might cost them some real money. Especially if you replied and argued your case. You could have argued that the spam you got was not covered by your agreement and that they indeed owed you money. Imagine if a thousand people did this?
Yeah....or they can figure out the concepts of form letter and auto-reply. Personally I see no good way to deal with these people but to ignore them and guard your email address like a hawk.I use a different address for every thing I sign up for on-line and have them all go to same mailbox. If any given address gets too much spam I know WHO sold my address and I can easily redirect that address to/dev/null without loosing personal mail. (The + alias in qmail does wonders.)
"Easter eggs" like this outside PC's are a common thing. I mean these started on console games. But I do not thing this even qualifies as an "easter egg". Demo modes are common in many appliances. They are usually well documented thogh.
My Sony TV has a "service tunning mode" (it's amaizing how much you can mess with the unit) My TiVo has some hidden controlls, as well as a special combo that sends in close captioning names of the people who worked on it. My car stereo has a demo mode that comes the first time you power the unit up. Pretty much anything controlled by any sort of soft/firm-ware of any sort can have these "tunable" parameters and other hidden functions.
I used to own an old RCA TV. This particular model had no remote, but almost identical one with a few extra features did. Universal remotes did not work. So I opened it up. Sure enough it had IR recievers covered up in black tape. You never know.
Ok, lets put this B5 vs. Trek argument aside NOW. Because they cannot be compared. Not because one is better than another, but because they are way too different. It's like comparing Simpsons to West Wing. They are just not the same category/style/purpose. Trek series is Action/Adventure fantasy punctuated with a but of Drama. It's entertainment of the heart. I LOVE Trek.
B5 on the other hand is Political Drama punctuated with a bit of Action/Adventure. It's a completely different animal. It is entertainment of the mind. I am a huge fan of B5.
I have to agree though, set design and costumes on B5 are pretty hideous. Though at least B5 earthforce uniforms look like uniforms, instead of ST circus outfits. To add to everything, acting is so bad on B5 too. For a show based on an ensemble cast, I would have hoped they would have hired more than two real actors. But B5 special effects rock. And the story.. the story makes it all worth while. Instead of episodic heroics and scientific techno-bable of ST, you have a tightly knit story. Nothing is free and for every action - no matter how noble or idealistic - you got consequences and ultimatly responsibility. Not something you find in a lot of episodic TV.
Most of the people I know who never got into B5, either stopped watching within first 2 seasons (most of which is just set-up) or saw a few episodes from all over the place, made no sense of it and ignored it. Their loss.
