I honestly think a good portion of the/. community is anti-piracy. I know a few kids who pirate software, and one moron who lives for warez, but other than that I really don't know any pirates. What is your proposed system of economics? I still haven't heard it. I don't follow capitalism like a religion, but I know it's the best system for a society of our size. If I'm wrong I want to hear why, not "why are you so quick and adamant to defend it".

It leads to companies wanting to inovate, and when companies want to inovate, people want to become inovators so they can get paid. This leads to more people trying to inovate, so it's not just curiosity driven learning (which is highly effective, but it isn't effective as curiosity driven inovation happening at the same time as corperate idea churning).
Capitalism has nothing to do with IP rights, so that shouldn't even be part of this discussion. Capitalism leads to trade secrets, and our scociety leads to IP, but capitalism does not lead to IP.
There is no 'capitalism is god' religion outside of washington, and morons. But most of the morons are also willing to believe anything the media feeds them. Most people (especially here) are well aware of capitalism and its flaws, but at the same time, it is a fact that it *works*, and so far no other system for a country our size has been proposed that would work.

You have yet to give an example of a system better than our current one for giving people a motivation to spend thier time on R&D. So far you have insulted 3 people for being moronic in defending capitalism, and provided nothing but the argument "inovation isn't driven by money", well people are more likley to attempt to inovate (generally a prerequisite for inovation) if they are getting paid, otherwise they would probably spend all thier time doing other things to get paid.

If we were a comunist country (or whatever) there would probably still be people dying in 3rd world countries, because thier average person would be worth less than ours, so our 'overpriced drugs' would be used on us first. So I always have readable ambient 'natural' light, I use a desklamp from thinkgeek and floor lighting to achieve it (I had a local expert help me select the right floor lamps).

Did you take into account the power utilization rate of a large power plant is going to be significantly higher than a high-torque engine thats prone to random temerature changes while stop-go driving.
I'm just dying to see how 1J going into a power plant compares to 1J going to an internal combustion engine in a car.
Get a nice decent quality mtn bike (around 300$) and use it any time you would normally drive within 5 miles of your house. I started doing this in college, and it's a very efficent way to stay in shape.
I wouldn't try to do more than 2 miles a day if your really out of shape, but if you bike regularly you will be able to do 30+ miles really quickly. It's my favorite type of exercise, and it's quit fun. I normally only have to use my car every 2 or three days, or when I am in a rush.
It measures your ability to comprehend and interact with your given scociety.
Thats why race can play a card in some IQ test questions, and highly-functional autistic people can learn how to get high IQ scores if they learn exceptionally well.

I just ran it again, and suprizingly I don't have a virus.
