The sheer amount of energy required to launch a payload at 2km/s from such a short barrel would require a current far in excess of anything THIN copper wire could bear. Not only would the barrel burst and copper go flying everywhere, the copper would be molten.
You don't know much about physics do you?
All the wire has to do is carry the amperage it's being fed. The energy is generated by a variation in magnetic flux. This has absolutly nothing to do with melting the wire. If the amperage is high enough, yes the wire could overheat, but since it's so long, I don't think you need that much current.
The advantage of Hydrogen as a by-product of water is that it does _not_ require derivatives of fossile fuels, thus not polluting.
Using natural gas kind of destroys that principle.
Much easier and cost effective to buy some distilled water and use solar energy to split it, store the hygrogen for the night. + you get no carbon residue or emissions.
The weakening of AMD is bad. We'll find ourselves with even higher prices on Intel CPU (yes, it is possible) since the only reason the lowered their prices is because the Athlon 1.4 could reach the same perf levels as an Intel 1.7 in most instances and yet the intel was 3 times the price.
For Intel to lose the only competition they have is definitely no good for the consumer.

brief summary of what happened.
Ever heard of the Three Mile Island incident? That was not in the USSR.
