You can cast is as class theft, but it is generational as well. The last generation broke many social contracts, one of them was the CEO theft of wages.
It was supported as a compromise. When I say self supporting I don't mean it pays for itself, I mean the funds are available for the programs, instead of a feast or famine support the poor program.
Maybe the ID is free, but tracking down the birth certificate, SS card, and other identifying information is not free and very difficult for many people.
The new (CC) stuff seems better for those really interested in math, maybe the old rote memorization of algorithms is better for everyone else? Bingo! It's also better for making people develop an interest in math.
Looking at those websites, it appears that they both serve a sort of missionary purpose. I'm not sure that translates globally. There are people willing to dump money into "saving souls" that they won't dump into lifting up the people around them.
School districts are so insulated from "the Fed" it's not even funny. They are often full of cronysim and swindlers because the are run on the local level instead of having strong oversight. If I had a nickel for every time I heard of a superintendent or principal pulling some high handed paternal bullshit because he/she thinks parents are morons, I'd be a rich man. Voter apathy dilutes the voice of any parent and allows the school district to run roughshod over it's community. Parents are definitely part of the problem, but Administrators are a bigger part. Teachers take all the flack when they are the ones actually helping things, usually.
Free public education for all is one of the bedrocks of our democracy and it led us to be the world power that we are today. It's sad to see so many maroons trying to dismantle this system.
Here in Indiana, at least, I see the same issue. Our school district is growing and getting less funding per student then other districts that are shrinking. The state will not redistribute the pie correctly.
The urban schools are dealing with legacy building costs and alot of other things that a newer district doesn't have to contend with. There are also a lot of really small rural districts getting high per student amounts, so it's not just an urban issue.
That's just reality seeping in, reality has a liberal slant.
Seriously, liberals outnumber conservatives by any count. Conservatives in the US just have disproportionate power because low population rural areas outnumber large population liberal areas and they have the same say in our government. Basically, the people nobody can stand to live around get to have a louder voice in our political system because they chased away any reasonable people in their district.
Any business or website that caters to people instead of land areas will have a liberal slant.
That's funny, I get that meeting crap from oldsters, when a quick IM would handle things. They also want to call instead of using email or text.
My guess is that your an unabashed fuckup and everyone feels the need to make it a meeting so they can gauge how much you understand and cover their asses.
Don't gloss over how much easier it was to live a frugal life then. Every company wasn't trying to dip a finger into your wallet with recurring charges. You weren't brainwashed from birth to consume. Advertising psychology was in it's infancy. There are plenty of other examples. You can't just toss up your hands and claim your grandpa and I are playing from the same deck.
That's great if your starting out in a high price area, you can save, or sell some crap and roll into a low price area with a nest egg. I see it all the time. It's much harder if you start out in a low price area.
I think the simple fact is that our society has been swindled.
We've been lead to believe that saving for retirement, saving for your child's education, and saving for your medical care are achievable goals. They are only achievable for a small subset of the population, a load subset. Most people will always live on what they make. Social capital is worth more then money in the bank, whether it's kids that will help (historical), or society (European model). Wealth can always be stolen, it can disappear in a moment, often when it is most needed. It can be stolen by inflation, predatory financial markets, swindlers, poor planning, etc. We need to learn to invest more in our social net instead of hoarding and saying, "I got mine."
Because what you got, is too tempting to those who ain't got, and those who got, but gotta have more.
That's true, it is debated, but it's far from automatically bad or automatically good. It's hard to argue that maintaining the status quo is going to make things better. At some point, any change is good.
I see the opposite. Alot of conservative opinions are knee-jerk simplistic stances. To use your example, raising the minimum wage will cost jobs. Anyone can follow that "logic", unfortunately, it doesn't hold up in the real world.
Another example is "death tax", it kicks in when you die... It actually doesn't, it only kicks in when an estate over a certain amount is transferred, hence inheritance tax.
What about abortion, it's bad to kill a baby. Sounds simple and everyone agrees, however, the issue of abortion is not about killing babies, it's about the failure of our society to help young mothers and cherish the children the produce.
Too many people either can't or won't analyze things, they are more interested in a catchy argument that "sounds" right, but breaks down in the real world.
So, bring back child labor...?

I'm more scared of the GOP presidential staff. Electing a Republican will see the return of Norquist, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Gonzolez, etc.
Are you including things like this in your calculations?
http://www.motherjones.com/politics/2014/01/republicans-won-food-stamps-farm-bill
The democrats want a self supporting social net. The republicans want to throw a nickel in someone's hat once in awhile.
Well, how many young ceo's are there?
Yes, and brave men banded together and outlawed those practices. Thank god for Unions, right?

I would argue that, "sign this or your fired", qualifies as duress.

I wish I had a mod point for you.
I see your privilege shining through, although I know you can't.

Truthfully it's a voter issue.
Wow, I'm surprised that nations with higher costs of living spend more money then ones with low cost of living.

let's see your citations. I don't see many teenagers in the $15 /hour protests.

My rule of thumb, if it's being hawked no AM radio, it's probably a scam.
