My wife and I had a hard time finding a photographer for our wedding. We did not have a lot of money to spend. All of the photographers we spoke with wanted more money than we could afford. Also since we ware short on money we wanted to be able to make our own copies where ever we could get the best price. Everyone we talked to wanted you to go through them for the reprints.
My wife placed an ad online out of desperation. She got a reply from a woman who was a substitute teacher that did photography on the side. We contacted her and set up a meeting with her. After seeing samples of her work (which were as nice as any of the "Professionals" work) we learned that she had a Package deal that included you getting the negatives.
So we went with her and I we had not one problem. She was very professional and courteous. Everyone loved the pictures when we got them. The best part was that we could make reprints for friends and family from where ever we wanted.
Okay so by your logic then if I plow into a car load of kids because I'm using a laptop while driving and it explodes in a giant fire ball and they all die and I live, I'm okay if I have a good insurance company and/or lawyers? I would be in no way responsible?
You already are responsible for what you do while driving. If you cause an accident you are at fault period. It dose not matter if you were on a cell phone, reading the paper, eating, or using a laptop.
I for on have just about given up on the Movie, TV, and Record industry. When I was in High School I used to watch a lot of TV, buy lots of CD's and go to the Movies.
Now I'm hard pressed to find anything worth my time to watch or hear. All the big Networks seem to rush to make copies of the crap that the one of their competitors made. The recoding industry keeps pushing crap out onto the market. The Movie industry keeps pushing out crap.
For the past five or six years I've just about completely stopped watching TV or buying CD's. I rarely even go to see a movie in theaters now.
As far as I'm concerned the only thing that will hurt me is the crippling of technology that will come from the Disney bill.
I can live with out the media companies. Can they live with out the consumer?

I don't know if Ti = More torn off fingers but I do know it can happen with gold rings as well. I once had a boss who lost his wedding band finger in an ATV accident. Seems he had a bit too much to drink and decided to "jump" his quad. After he picked himself up off the ground he discovered the missing appendage. Just goes to show anything on the hand of an idiot can be dangerous.

Sure Titanium is very nice but I went with Platinum for my wedding band because I wanted something that had weight to it. Plus I like the way Platinum looks over Titanium.
All to true about this kind of thing. I'm not sure how many of you remember that show Beyond 2000 but they did a story about a guy in Japan I think who invented a paint that would heat up when you applied current to it. He put some on a styrofoam tray and used it to cook an egg.
It's kind of ironic that the government to connect research sites used the Internet in its infancy. I believe they also looked at it as a way to provide a backup to phone communications. Then they turned it over the public and now they want it back. To a degree anyway.
The issue is that this one law has great potential to set a precedent for censorship on the web.
I would agree with that statement if, this law defined a new type of unlawful behavior. However, it's talking about a behavior that is already defined by the court as unlawful. The only precedent it would seem to set is for more laws that carry over existing laws to apply to the Internet.
I think the key word here is "potential". Yes these law doses have the potential to lead to other laws that "might" restrict more sites. In some ways laws are like tools. For example a shovel is used for digging. It also has the "potential" to be used as a weapon. So should be get rid of all shovels just because they have the "potential" to be used wrongly?
This is why judicial review and checks and balances on power are so important. At some point you have to trust the system a little. If you don't then I suggest you pack your bags now.
I'm all for getting rid of the child porn websites, but I would rather it be done in a way that does not remove the freedom of surfing the web.
I don't see how blocking access to a site that has child porn on it restricts your freedom to surf the web. That's like saying blocking you access to illegal drugs removes your freedom to buy aspirin.
Neat idea. I like to have enough fan noise to know that it's working with out having to put my hand behind the PC. I would not want to use one to cool a hard drive though.
For me the most interesting part of the story is that after making the fist three clocks, Harrison took a completely different approach to the problem, and ended up with a much more elegant design.
I've always preferred an analog watch to a digital one. For me you get a much better sense of the passage of time than with a digital. Not to mention they have a charm that you don't often find in a digital.

My company has an e-mail retention policy of 45 days. Every Monday morning you get a message in your inbox telling you how many massages have been deleted and that they are not recoverable. The funny thing is at least for me, all it dose it put them in my deleted mail folder. It dose not actually delete them.
It's also annoying because I get a lot of informational mail that I "need" to keep. So it's either print them out or lose them. Well it would be if it worked right.
I agree with you about them having or almost having a monopoly on the mainframe business. However if a company needs the kind of processing power offered by a mainframe, then most likely they will be able to afford IBM's pricing. Yes it would be nice if there were more competition.
I think part of the cost is that you know when you buy a mainframe from IBM; it will be up 24/7, 365 days a year. Companies that use mainframes can't afford the problems that servers have. It seems that people have grown accustomed to servers crashing as something that just happens. See what happens when your mainframe goes down for a minute. Talk about panic.
Having seen (but not used:( ) one about a year ago, and the raw power it contains, it's truly something to be reckoned with.
Speaking as someone who has sat in the consol operator's seat and run jobs on one, it's as fun as can be. Learning the commands is the easy part. Learning the job flow and what to do when a job abends, now that's tough. It takes a lot more than people think to sit at the consol and run the mainframe.
I work a rather large company that might as well have an "IBM inside" logo added to ours. I would say that 99% or our computers are IBM. From the mainframe right on down to desktops and servers. I can see how it would be frustrating for a competitor to break the hold IBM has here. Especially where the mainframe is concerned.
Just the cost of switching to another OS for the mainframe, not to mention if you wanted to switch hardware, would be outrageous. Like the article says not to many companies besides Microsoft have such a hold.
A crucial break in the detective case came from a fortuitous source, Benitez's wife, microbiologist Matilde Canelles, whom Benitez enlisted to search the fossil record for clues.
