  1. Dungeons and Dragons! on What's the Worst Movie You've Ever Seen? · · Score: 1
I can't believe nobody has mentioned this yet. Are your memory-blocking skills so much better than mine? Am I the only one who saw Dungeons and Dragons? It featured everything horrible about horrible movies: stupid plot, bad acting, failed expectations, humiliation of good actors, predictability, and a Wayans brother trying to be some kind of Jar-Jar character.

There was a maze that wasn't a maze (it was just a straight path), there were poorly-animated dragons, there was Jeremy Irons and Thora Birch making fools of themselves, and just when you thought Marlon Wayans is dead, he came back to life! Augghh!

  2. Currently running Tomcat with IIS in production on Who is Using Tomcat or Jetty in Production? · · Score: 1
I have deployed an operational system that uses Tomcat integrated with IIS on NT. We had to use IIS because someone with Power got it in their head that IIS is more secure than Apache. Chalk another point up for proprietary software. "If you can't see the code, it must be more secure."

It is a pretty small system (~100 users), and for that Tomcat works very well. I have also had no problems with IIS integration, including using IIS for authentication when accessing servlets served by Tomcat.

Tomcat is a little slow when serving up very large pages (many megs), but I haven't tried any other servlet containers with output that big to see if they're any better. My main problem with Tomcat is in my development environment, I have to be careful about how I update servlets. Tomcat is somewhat flaky when it comes to figuring out when a servlet has been updated and needs to be redeployed. Often I have to restart Tomcat completely. But again, that's only in development where the software is changing often. In production I have had no such problems. I also haven't had any problems with Tomcat not following the JSP/servlet specification.

Umm.. if you're in orbit, you're not going to fall. Jumping out of the shuttle in orbit isn't a problem, but you're not going to go down. You're going to float in orbit alongside the shuttle. To go down, you would have to deorbit, which requires thrust. So actually going down is quite a bit of a problem.

  4. Re:Which formats support simple batch manipulation on Non-MP3 Codecs? · · Score: 1

Sorry if this is a little too mainstream/microsofty for /., but the musicmatch(http://www.musicmatch.com) mp3 player has a volume levelling feature that I find quite useful. You just turn the feature on and when you add mp3s to the library it automatically normalizes the volume. Unfortunately it's only for Windows, but that's what I have to use at work anyway.
