  1. Re:Wow 10000!!! on PowerSchool Software Helps School Districts · · Score: 3, Informative
Actually according to the USGovt, 50% of all students in the US are in districts with under 10000 kids. And 90% of the districts have less than 10000 kids.

So this is a pretty big market.

To work with those super large districts (the ones with the other half of the kids) is orders of magnitude more difficult I'm sure due to the customizations you can expect them to require.

Why is this up at mod 5!? Was it a joke? What was the point? Ever spun around while watering the lawn? Is the water 50 feet from you traveling faster than that right in front of you? Of course not! It's traveling at the same speed relative to you. That's why the water stream looks curved. d

  4. Yucca doesn't need to last 10,000 years on Yucca Mountain Approved for US Nuclear Waste Storage · · Score: 1

I think it's hilarious to see people freak out because of the 10,000 year design life 'need' of Yucca. As if things today are going to be exactly the same 10,000 years hence. You know, in just 100 years they may decide to store the waste on a Moonbase. Or in a thousand years we may all live in a ring around the planet or Mars. In far less time, probably 50 years we will come to our senses, put our ignorant fears of all things atmoic to rest, and just 'burn' the waste for the great nuclear fuel that it is and have NO more by products.

I would like to point out that the radiation dose from going to the beach w/o sunscreen or simply from the cosmic radiation you get on an airplane trip is going to pour you with far more radiation than something emitting so slowly that it has a 10,000 year half life - most of which is alpha particles (read Helium nuclei) which can be shielded by your clothes. In other words, if you want to be safe from radiation, stand around a few tons of alpha emitters in Nevada; but DON'T go to the beach. Luckily, there are no beaches in Nevada, so at least the governor doesn't have to worry about *that*.

  5. Just like the illegal OEM contracts of old on MS Pressuring NW Schools: Pay Up, Or Face Audit · · Score: 1

Boy it sounds like MS re-invented their favorite market power ploy... remember how they were barred from OEM contracts like this? Remember how OEMs paid for a copy of Windows whether the computer shipped with it or not? And how because of that they were strongly motivated to always preload it even if the alts were free? And now we have this new contract... the school pays for MS whether they use it or not. Very scary stuff.... Why in the world doesn't the mainstream media pick up on this company and its butal tactics? People seem to think that since its software and not a car or a chemical, it's somehow benign compared to other indutries. MS may not kill you with toxins, or cause oil spills, but in many ways they are far more evil than any other company around. Isn't there something just sick about teachers losing their jobs so MS can add to their 37 billion dollar cash pile! d
