there wasn't one person in CompUSA that could answer my questions. Lucky for me another customer was able to.
I don't have a problem with Apple stocking thier stores first. Other retailers don't put enough effort into selling them anyway.
btw I have been using 10.1 for 5 months now after only running Windows since I owned a computer and I love it. G3 600 mhz iMac 512 meg of ram.
Not one problem. Next purchase will be a TiBook , well that is if the wife gives the ok.;)
Actually the new imac is priced 400 US dollars lower than a Dell with equal options.
I myself am a new mac user. I switched once I read about and was able to try OS X.
I am running 10.1 on a 600mhz G3 iMac w/ 512 meg of ram and really haven't noticed a difference in performance over the 1ghz Athlon I was using with Win2k and Redhat.
To be quite honest, this has been the best computing experience I have ever had. I have not had a single problem.
Pricey? I would agree that the G4 towers are pricey.
But I haven't met anyone who owns one who is complaining about it.
As for porting OS X to x86 I doubt that Apple would ever do that.
Yes, the chips do run quieter. The mac's use a risc cpu. Which runs much cooler than a cisc (intel, amd ) chip.
From what I gather it has to do with instructions sets and clock cycles of the cpu.
While it might take multiple cycles to execute an instruction on a cisc chip. instructions for a risc take only one cycle.
therefore they run cooler.
I have to agree with the the one post on the site I linked to above. Microsoft knew about the security hole in XP for 5 weeks yet they continued to tout it as the most secure system ever. I believe it was irresponsible of them not to at least inform the government about this bug. Heck, I think they should have gone as far as tell the consumers.
The whole thing tells me that Microsoft cares nothing more than their bottom line (yes I know that they are a business, but this could be a national security issue). I think that there is criminal negligence here. I think there is grounds for consumer fraud. I for one am going to write the states attorney and ask them what stance they are going to take on this issue.
I am one of those users who after trying a few distros, gave up. Being new, I had difficulty understanding documentation.
The learning curve was too high or I just did not have the patience.
And as much as I wanted to break away from Windows, I could not get everything I needed out of Linux.
I have however discovered Mac OS X.
I am now happy.:)
If linux had been this easy.
I hardly doubt Mac is going to disappear anytime soon.
I myself am a recent convert. I love it. I was toying with Linux trying to make a break from Windows but the learning curve was too high for me and I needed something more "friendly".
OS X was just what I was looking for.
I too have a lot of Windows apps, but I have found Mac alternatives for all of them.
And one of the ironic things about that is Office X for Mac. I believe that by Microsoft releasing a version of Office for X solidifies it's future even more.
And by the way. The iPod rocks.
I am going to write Mr. Torvalds and see if he could appoint you "Mr. Public Relations" for Linux.
Heck, with your charm and wit I see Linux becoming a big on the desktop.
You really know how to set a first impression on someone.
Thanks.

I am not going to laugh. I bought a PB 75 too. My niece is using it today. Never a problem with the thing. I now own a Mac. OS X rocks! :)
