Investment first rule, don't invest money that you cannot afford to lose. Most time when you start investing you win some and lose some with the idea that you are learning to diversify etc. However when it is someone else's money that you don't really have too many thoughts of paying back then it is easy to take risk. When it is money that you have actually had to work for it becomes a little more difficult to gamble.
The problem with high risk investments is that even though they go up, when do you sell? If I just stay in for one more month I will make this much more money. You don't sell until too late and the instrument has reached point of maximum pessimism. That is when the big sell of happens and everyone locks in their losses. This is the emotional game of investing as opposed to the one that is actually driven by intellect.
Funny that AI seems to really only able to play games. Is this all that it is good for, a clear set of rules, no real damage that they can do outside the game world. When it comes to driving cars they sometimes forget to brake for people (oh lost a point, who cares.)
Not really as clean as you make it out, however it is diminishing and below 5% for the last 20 years (maybe 1 blip over the line) https://tradingeconomics.com/u...
Certainly not just simple one magic bullet but any genius can figure out if we can import with no mark up and export with a tariff it is not fair and business will move their production or supply point to get around it. While I don't think tariffs are the solution we need a level playing field (not totally level, just more level.)
Notice we put 60 Bil in tariffs on and China is thinking about 3 Bil. They know they have been busted but want to make it look like they are doing something. You know China has got a shock that the US will now do and not just talk. Your move Xi. However their move now I can pretty much guess is to bluster and wait for a democrat globalist to come into power, with the spending bill today hard to remember why we voted these guys in.
Funny, he is the first one to actually have the expertise to recognize we are in a trade war, so he has the best credentials yet.
Strange how criticism of Trump is actually 9 year old playground level.
Trump is arrogant and he just says what he wants to unguarded. He is also smart and not tangled up in crap. All the things that are bad about him are like medicine to the indoctrination of Politically correctness. What next, he smells? Just think about what you are saying you don't like him and are not using level headed criticism. All caps? what is this some typing edict that he failed to meet? This relates to a trade war how? Oh I know if he is able to break edict and piss people off he will actually have the strength of character to call out we ain't gonna take that shit no more on trade deals, probably in all caps. Winning a Trade war in the US is easier than you think but first you kind of have to play to win. All countries around the world react to the US we put a Tariff on and they think what are we going to do now we cannot sell them our cheap state sponsored steel anymore undercutting the locals so we can break their hold on the industry.
Also surely all the global warming gurus will love this. Less steel made in china with power from coal instead made in US with local power (smaller part coal) and not having to be shipped. Trump just did more for the Carbon footprint of the US than the Paris climate crap I would guess.
That is the dumbest thing I have heard. Do you think the US grew by being globalist? This is destroying the US not helping, US used to be super nationalistic with most people believing the US was the best country on earth, oh and this is when we grew. Now we remember the good days of growth.
you are worried about your headphones or shoes going up by 20% but you already are paying the tariff at the far end. It is costing you your country. Of course most globalists care more about cheap shoes than screwing the country.
Just to be clear. Trump did not start a trade war, he just has the bullshit filter to recognize that we are already in a trade war and losing. "Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results." If we keep with no tariffs we have lost. China has had GDP growth of around 10% for years, because they are taking our GDP. US 19 Trillion, china now 11 Trillion. Soon they would topple us, except that we recognise the war they are winning and fight back. Everyone worried about Russia when they are at 1 Trillion (just over and all numbers from memory no need to complain about the details.)
Agreed! We are in a trade war, however everyone wants the US to lay down and accept their raping of us. Trump realised the Trade war has started and is not going to lose without a fight (in fact obviously the US can and will win, if we fight.)
Obama was fighting for the other side, meaning he is a globalist and not a nationalist. Trump understands that it is no use being a globalist as you will just be abused by nationalists, until you are 3rd world country with no influence.
People even on here seemed to have embraced the hate Trump crap so much that they cannot see straight. Comments about Trump dying in jail or being executed with his family, and then they call Trump a fascist. There was a song by Michael Jackson "I'm starting with the man in the mirror." might be good for some of the teenagers posting this stuff to listen to and contemplate.
Funny how Russia makes the news so much, They are about 10% size of the US in terms of GDP. Now they helped so they say another worthless country done something pointless. How is this even news, except for buzz words of crypto currency, Russia and Trump.
She is right in front of the car and it does not brake, a human driver would see the persona and react and the machine could not. She was right in front! If they guy had been paying attention he could have got a foot to the brake and limited the damage (hopefully) but I thought the computer would do better like quicker than a human driver.
Driving fast at night things happen fast, what happened to the LIDAR stolen from google it should have showed up the woman (light or dark) and stopped. The LIDAR would use no visible light and should be looking 360.
In fact a modern car with radar and collision avoidance system would have done better.
Uber sorry your crap ain't ready for the road it should be back in the lab, I expect a lot better from a car loaded with sensors and technology.
This is just funny that you single out fox without pointing out the left wing media culprits. Fox is right leaning (if you watch their opinion shows, much less on their actual news) but the left wing media is militant.
The problem is the left puts opinion in the news headlines, let alone stories. The funny thing is people are so anti Trump pro crappy stuff they cannot see the difference between facts and opinions and don't even accept other people are allowed to differ in opinions.
Comment re: fox is so unbalanced I have to call it fake news.
No that is you. It is just that crypto currencies are a buzz word so every article (good or bad) makes it to the front page (so to speak.)
If this article seems bad to you then just take note that when crytpo currencies fall to page 3 their value will drop due to a significant amount of their value being derived from people buying them in a bigger fool scenario and every article that gets published only helps the buzz even if negative. It has to be extremely damming to actually have a significant negative effect.
This article will have a small positive effect (on price/popularity) by checking my buzz meter for article effect. Remember that emotional spending decisions are not taking the facts into account. Only people worried about this really is criminals (and tax evaders) who probably dropped Bitcoin a while back to instead have blood soaked cash as a primary means of exchange, except for ransomware operators.
Note that the paper describes a potential solution, which is to simply tag the files and material as counter productive and that tag list itself can be disseminated to clients so they don't get the inserted data when fetching the block chain. Also I assume the tag list could be inserted into the block chain.
Or this was done by some pervert who was using the block chain as a method to transmit their content to others, perhaps never with the intention of getting caught. Thinking that people would just think who knows or cares what that is.
Depends a bit on when it was done. If recently it would have been more difficult, if a long time ago then they may not have even thought of bitcoin as a thing of value just a hidden method of transmitting data.
or maybe you would just make a mess. Great words from marketing but think about power supplies, IO and even a purpose otherwise they are pollution and nothing else.
If you look at Drones which is a great example, they have taken off since 2013 but could easily have been built in 2003.
Once it was known that it can be done, everyone does it. I suspect there is a lot of this with Fusion it is a big project and no one will start it until they have some evidence that it will work. Just try getting funding for something like this from investors. Investors know the history and you need to show some sort of breakthrough.
The Breakthrough is sometimes just hard work, which no one does unless they are paid and so nothing happens since the barrier is funding.
So we need MIT to prove things, then the same guys who do this at MIT this will literally make millions doing it again for real for industry. Go MIT this will be awesome!
Slapped the front window and caused a scratch? What is it made of?
I had some kids key my car parked in the supermarket car park, now that can cause a scratch but a slap on the window?
It seems that you are trying to ascribe the cost of the invention to the patent. Most inventions are made because of seeing a value of the invention in the market or as part of creating a solution that has a market value. Ascribing this to the cost of the patent is misleading, are we also going to put in the cost of the lawyer going to law school? It is not really related.
The patent is there to protect the invention but the invention is made prior to the patent and if you make the invention with the intention of making the patent then your whole business case is litigation possibly?
Now a patents cost would also be unrelated to it's value. Such as if you patented a medicine that helped a very rare condition in a specific breed of dog it would cost the price of one patent (assuming you already had the invention) but if you had a patent for a medicine that helped a common condition in all dogs then it would cost you the price of one patent. But one has a bigger market potential that the other.
I think most patents cost about 25k to 50k. I have just worked on one (totally different field and not related to software) but the cost of that will be about 30k including the cost of research we have done the patent and the first filing so far. I think it can be done cheaper.
However the numbers were not actual just to represent a difference of value from two different parties.
I don't think Uber cares about the cost of the trip, they are doing this as marketing (if they are even doing it at all) Having a guy in the truck being paid does not make too much difference to the cost.
All true, however I suspect that the autodrive is also with a driver on board in the truck. There may be some benefit even to doing that, such as the human driver can rest and then drive again later (when the handover to human driver time comes) hopefully refreshed by a sleep. So in the event of a sensor fail the truck could keep going with the human driver taking command. Kind of like autopilot on a plane really.
w.r.t. your IPO tool comment this is what their 10bil has got them. Trucks that can drive from A to B, as long as there are no unexpected things between A and B. I have to say it does not make me feel any safer on the roads to think that Uber trucks may be there. They have started out with a very similar motto that google had when they started "Don't be evil" with just a few letters removed off the first word. I can imagine that this company ethos has effected everything they do including the self driving team.
If you check Blackberry they are doing ok on financials. Looks like they have a Gross Profit of >0.5B however down a 1B from 2015.
The thing about these companies is that they have had their wave and if they can survive the valley they may find their next wave or even a niche where they can exist at a lower level. Their shares are trading pretty solidly still so I am guessing they are doing well somewhere (not maybe at the consumer level.)
With the patents they don't need to do anything for 15 years patents last 20 years, without looking at the actual patents I suspect that they have some good stuff to solve problems that no one else had solved at the time, if there is prior art I think FB etc have had ample time to find it and still can and challenge the legitimacy of the patents. Even though patents are abused by many it does not mean that they are in every case not legit, and if you had a patent and said to FB "hey pay me 1 billion for patent license." and they said "our offer is 1Mil" you might need someone who could push them closer to your figure. I suspect this is all about negotiation. Part of the game that these companies play.
