Like it or not, but the American culture and society is a phenomenon in itself, equally apart from both European and Asian heritage. Truly, violence is as American as apple pie. It's also sad that the U.S. government tries to straightjacket American society into a European model of democracy -- this is why American society seems so schizophrenic at times. In a way, the American people are as oppressed as the worst of African colonial powers.
