If your audio equipment lets noise like that through, you really have some serious garbage. Any switching power supply will completely eliminate noise like this. (Plus, I'm guessing the noise is way out of human hearing range anyway).
Personally, I've never like the quake3 engine. And has anyone else noticed that return to wolfenstein sucks up massive amounts of memory? On my machine it sucks up all of my physical ram (196 megs), and most of the swap too!
so if i say, access my computer that's at my friend's house through VPN, then i must be conspiring to blow up a building. got it. VPN=terrorism. Everyone knows you can't conspire to blow things up without VPN.
They are NOT talking about downloading from multiple servers simultaneously (although this protocol would allow that to be easily done). What they are talking about is a method of transmitting data that doesn't require it's integrity to be verified. The recieving end doesn't need to keep saying "got the packet...got the packet", but rather sit there recieving until it has everything. Basically it's UDP with built in integrity check that requires no additional communication.
no, it's not just data compression. if you cut out a bit of data from the middle of an mp3, the song still works, minus that part. what they are talking about is a protocol where if any part of it is missing, the whole thing doesn't work. therefore, all you need to do is recieve data till it is complete. no integrity checking required.
I believe that the way the vulnerability works, the user will receive one of those "open or save" dialogs as usual. The file could appear to be, say an innocent txt file. Choosing the open option would excute it (according to the fake MIME header), whereas choosing save would reveal that it has a.exe extension.
If a user has chosen to ALWAYS open a certain type of file (I believe IE has a checkbox for this), then it follows that a spoofed MIME header for that type would be executed without any user intervention.
Am I the only one that thinks changelogs are often not technical enough? IMHO, a changelog is not a place where you put abstract descriptions such as "fixed bugs in dohicky". It should have very precise descriptions so that the exact nature of the bug fix or feature addition can be determined without having to go searching.
I think the point people miss is that if you want to do only that kind of stuff, you might as well be using Windows or another GUI-based OS. One reason I use Linux is because I can do things much faster with a keyboard and a bash prompt than with a mouse. Sure I use things like graphical web browsers and such, but when I don't need them, I don't have to use them. The power of unix lies in chaining small programs together. If you don't want to to do that, why use it?
Note that I'm not trying to say who should and should not use Linux, just that you won't see the true power of it if are stuck in a GUI and can't use a shell if your life depended on it.
Lenz 's(sp?) law. An current that results in an opposing field is produced. The spinning object would slow to a stop. You can only get out as much energy as you put in.
On the contrary, a high quality vinyl system is vastly superior quality. The reason the S/N ratio of vinyl is usually not good is because of improperly adjusted equipment, dust, worn out vinyl, etc. The problem with digital is in the low end. Without a very high bitrate (much higher than 48kbps), a lot of the low frequencies are lost or distorted. Vinyl gives a much more clear and natural bass response. Of course, if all you want to do is listen to some music, it's not worth the trouble of maintaining the equipment. But if all you want is casual listening, you aren't an audiophile:)
I would suggest switching to AVG. I don't know if they are going to block the FBI crap or not, but they do have a very good free virus scanner for windows.
I suppose that the fact that the vast majority of network servers (webservers in particular) are running some kind of *nix has no bearing on what we should teach people to use?
On the contrary, I think it would be BETTER if it turns out to be a virus. That way, it would hopefully spread to clueless windows users everywhere, thus bringing major attention to itself. Plus there would be increased opportunity to dissect it and make all kinds of mess with the FBI server programs. What we need is public outcry and for their whole carnivore and spyware system to be shut down.
I find this kind of "firewall makes it secure" mentality very disturbing. There are many so many people around who think that their computer is secure just because they have a firewall, when really 90% of the windows personal firewall programs out there are crap and another 5% are poorly configured. Even the best firewall can't stop everything (if it did, why would you need a network connection!). Seems to me the best way to stop the FBI's spy trojan/virus is to not get it in the first place. Although I would be very interested in dissecting it (sending some fun messages to their server seems like a great way to express dissaproval).
I've been using galeon here mainly (it's using gecko as well), and I've found it to be quite good. The interface is much lighter than mozilla's, and it has a very good tab implementations. Give it a try if you haven't already.
Back in my highschool days, I recall them blocking such horrific sites as subway.com (the sandwich place), and some build your own rollercoaster java applet site. I'm so glad they never let me see those evil sandwiches (except for when I just used a proxy, hehe). I hear they make them fresh right in front of you! What is this world coming to!

The Biblical explanation for this "sudden decline" in civilizations is the Genesis flood (Genesis 6). The whole earth was destroyed by a flood and the only survivors were Noah, his family, and the animals aboard the ark. The time frame of about 2000BC lines up with the most popular estimates for the date of the genesis flood. There are views that the flood could have been caused by a vapor canopy around the earth which is theorized to have existed prior to the flood. In any case, according to the Bible, the purpose of the flood was to destroy the wicked civilizations that had come into existance, and give mankind a new start. The Bible does also say that the water came not just from the rain, but also from the "springs of the deep" (Gen 8:2). Perhaps this crater has some relation to the waters from the deep. A very interesting find. What people often fail to realize is how much archeological finds agree with the Bible. (Cities, flood evidence, the ark, tower of babel, etc).

What they are talking about is eliminating the need to verify the arrival of packets, not simply download parts of a file from multiple sites.

replace 48kbps with 48khz in parent:)

If it's truly superb quality your after, digital is not for you. I have yet to learn of any digital system that can beat a high quality vinyl system.

so you like it then? hehe. personally, if anything, i'd run blackbox or twm under cygwin.

I've got a renamed one on my system. It's called "gpg". Doesn't seem to execute in windows though.
