  1. Re:stupid on ABC Wants DVR Fast Forwarding Disabled · · Score: 1

What is wrong with government funded media, if we used our brains when we ingest information the bias becomes irrelevant, at least the government has to answer (though obliquely) to the voters, while big business only has to answer to the stock holders, and their clients (the ad companies.)

No matter which media channel you prefer you'll get bias, it is better to have one you can at least give feedback to. The BBC has several divisions, the License fee funded departments (gives us BBC1-4) and a profit running arm which drives the BBC [Canada, US etc] channels, when they annoy the viewers changes are made to the delivery / content. How often does ABC change its content based on viewer feedback, it will only change when the money is affected.

The Media companies could charge more for users who don't want adverts, but then that require a paradigm shift in the minds of the excutives, because then people will demand better programming.

  2. Re:How "pen-based" are we talking about? on Pen-Based PDA Market on Death Bed · · Score: 1

I have to jump into that pen and notebook camp... I've had PDAs either through upgrades or incompatibilities one feature or another that I became reliant on stop functioning. Eventually after several attempts at the PDA markets (spanning Psion II and IIIe, Windows CE devices 1.0 amd 2.0, Palm) I have gone back to the staple notebook and pen, I keep them and have them for easy searching.
The only device I think could possibly answer my need is the OQO http://www.oqo.com/hardware/basics/ device, but then this still seems beta tech and I'll wait a few years before jumping.
...unless someone wants to give me one for testing etc.

  3. Re:Hmmm... on Study Says Cell Phones Can Interfere With Planes · · Score: 1

If I remember my electroniuc all those years ago... The issue is that the electronics in aricraft weren't designed to handle the types of RF interference (most were designed many years ago, it can take several years if not decades for a device to make it not the cockpit) that modern hi speed chip put out, just think that heat in your AMD is generated by high speed switchiung, RF interference and pulses are generated by high speed switching. These RF pulses then cause false readings in the wires around the cockpit and plane hence will lead to potential errors. Plane devices are designed to handle lighting induced pulses but not the constant type produced by modern high speed devices. That little graphite plastic widget on your peripheral cables stop some of these pulses getting through.

  4. Re:Why? on Xara X to Be Released as Open Source · · Score: 5, Interesting

I have to agree, Xara grew up on the Archimedies RiscOS platform as Artworks, the team as Computer Concepts produces som very innovative products, it was a pity RiscOS lost out in the brawn over style schools placement battles of the 90s. I have been using the application since the mid 90s, and now it is to be ported I don't need my Windows install anymore :) at last, I am very happy
