Seriously why not Japan, or most European countries?

Because Japan, and most European countries, are geographically tiny. Australia is, AFAIK, the only USA-sized country rolling out nation-wide high-speed internet access. Our population density is an order of magnitude lower than yours, so surely, if we can make it profitable, so can the US.

Admittedly, our current infrastructure is mediocre, but the planned roll-out should address that.

Actually in Brisbane, the city of the article, we've been in a drought for so long that the signs are more likely to ask us to refrain from flushing at all! The current adage is something like "If it's yellow, let it mellow; if it's brown, flush it down".

RAID 0 'stripes' data across all of it's members - so yes, you do get a larger volume, as you said, but you also get faster read/write performance, as THG said. You're reading/writing evenly across multiple channels, rather than just filling up one disk and moving on to another - that's JBOD or linear RAID :).

Surely higher bandwidth for IP over sex could be achieved using sperm instead of STD's? Does a human sperm cell have more chromosomes that the average STD? Using your anology, IP over sex has been taking place for billions of years - reproduction.

  9. Re:But, but, but.. on Worm vs. Worm Battle Slows Networks · · Score: 1
In the dawn of the internet, benevolent worms were far more common than the nasties we see today. To quote from Julian Assange's book 'Underground':

"Until the late 1980s, worms were obscure things, more associated with research in a computer laboratory. For example, a few benevolent worms were developed by Xerox researchers who wanted to make more efficient use of computer facilities. They developed a `town crier worm' which moved through a network sending out important announcements. Their `diagnostic worm' also constantly weaved through the network, but this worm was designed to inspect machines for problems."
