Wow, a whole 2% annual growth, that's just mind-blowing. Definitive proof that stealing music doesn't hurt anyone.
By its self, it proves nothing other than they had a 2% growth, in a rather poor economy where most industries have seen a loss ( or complete collapse ). It says nothing about the whys or whats. Just that its +2%. it does not say piracy is killing ( or helping, or a negative impact ) the market any more than it says that the phase of the moon effected it.
So take your rant elsewhere please, it just makes you look petty and stupid ( and a bit jealous for those who have made it with their talents, which you obvious have not ). My advice is for you to do the honorable thing and fall on your chosen instrument and quietly remove yourself from the music scene, as you make the rest of us look bad.
While I'm sure ill get modded down, my personal opinion is that this is one of the problems that still holds Linux back from 'world domination' ( whatever that is ),
While admittedly its not nearly as bad as in 'the old days' when i jumped ship to the far more structured and focused BSD camp ( after being here from the very beginning ), the still rather fragmented Linux community wastes limited resources continuing reinventing the wheel, and 'doing things my way' which causes confusion for both end users and developers.
Sure 'choice is good' for the short term gratification me me me crowd, but if it hinders longer term goals it should be avoided if possible.
Why wouldn't it be practical? They do it now with "TVs" via the mac address on the box(s) that is attached to it. i still think that was part of the forced ( purchased by the industry ) move to digital video transmission, and the DMCA, so that they could once again get you to rent($) cable boxes, in effect that cant be legally built by a 3rd party. ( be it a real box, or a card for your TV. )
Back to 'internet acces' charges: You get charged x$ per month "basic network access" fee with a low cap, + x$ additional charge per device, perhaps raising the cap for each device..
When I can buy a DVD for the price of a cinema ticket + parking + snacks and when my living room is much nicer than the local cinema, it makes very little incentive to go to the cinema.
Expect that to change. Pay per view DVD is in our future. Why else do you think all players are connected to the network? ( 'additional content' my ass )
While i am angry at them like the next guy, i don;t suggest physical harm to anyone. ( except for life in prison ). in my suggestion ( that i would not take action on, for the obvious reason that its illegal, tho im not sure immoral ) it was just the data center ( and presumed empty at the time, or can made empty ) that would be destroyed.
losing all their computing ability in such a manner would make people think twice before they do it again.
The FreeBSD community takes a "blame the user" stance that is going to alienate most desktop users, who want to use the machine to get something done and don't want to be held up by snafus that may take days to fix.
Funny, that is one of the reasons i personally left the Linux camp long long ago and i was there from the beginning ( and I'm mean the VERY beginning, when it was still incapable of self-hosting ). A bunch of elitist jerks slowly appeared destroying the community, and fragmentation due to all the upcoming distributions made it a technical nightmare. Over at the BSD camps, people were less tolerant of misbehaving children but they were far more helpful as a community, and actually knew what they hell they were talking about as they were not just a bunch of kids shouting 'linux is cool.. windows sux.. i'm elite'.. that wouldn't know what a scheduler was if it bit them in the ass.
Linux is used more than BSD because there are more available distros, meeting diverse needs without any configuration necessary. Professional support is more readily available, and in my limited experience, even hardware support is somewhat better.
And BSD is more usable than Linux due to this same fact. More organized and predictable.
Lets say you get an option down the road, either 'appstore approve' or 'free for all'. ( which is more how i see it going down )
What is wrong with that? As shown with ipad/phone/pod most average consumers will be quite happy with the app-store route, which as a by product helps keep things stable and safe.
For those that want other stuff, the option will be there too.
Has been happening for generations, and its not hurt the publishers enough to worry about, and often causes a 2nd sale due to them wanting their own copy to keep and hold.
Sounds like the insane rants of the *AA all over again trying to save their dying business model.

Have a nice day.

Ick.

now also your ISP can see exactly how many devices you're attaching to the internet.
And since comcast is really just a cable TV company at its core, they will charge you per device.
I'm assuming that something like PFsense or a timecapsule will still work as a NAT device?

Destruction of government property is an offense in itself, so i would skip the smash it with a hammer idea.
Now, if it should happen to fall off on the interstate and get run over a few hundred times, well its not your fault it wasn't secure enough.
Just threaten the president. You will get all the attention you wish.

Any that runs windows and wants to move towards VDI without having to buy and maintain a bunch of x86 servers and esx ( or similar ).

Then the harassment will stop.
We need a few examples made.
Now that you have the big players like AT&T marketing phones, i have to disagree with that analysis..
That said, i do agree that few marketing teams are as good as Apple's.
Don't you mean 'paid off enough of the legislature'?
Bingo. but unfortunately its today's "shiny object ratings improver" in the media.
Just what we need....
We are trying to protect what our founding fathers created.
If you cant understand that rather simple concept that then you are an idiot.

There are reasons things are as they are, and mucking about with something so fundamental because it 'confuses some newbies' isn't a valid reason.
Newbies can learn. Disasters are hard to undo. Leave things be.
Then when you get hooked, you get screwed.
I don't remember any show defining a tractor beam as light..
The key here is *asking*. As long as they take a polite no for an answer and move along, i don't care what they *ask*.
If you cant build a programmer, you picked the wrong hobby.
