Actually, I dont use a cell phone in public anyway, so that isnt an issue. ( i think public use of cell phones is rude. And i try to not be a hypocrite )
As far as sniffing, It has nothing to do with my content, i just dont feel its anyone else's business what im talking about.
Encrypting by default still doesn't prove the *log* is legit and only prevents a 3rd party from secretly watching along the way, so i don't see me encrypting everything effecting that..
And I do agree i have to trust the person at the other end not to divulge/record/forge that i need to get milk.
Its time to implement encryption of ALL traffic from ALL applications. Perhaps even IPC encryption incase you have some sort of 'tap' installed on your computer.
Sure, it eats resources, but do you want others reading your information? I dont. Not even when its "we are out of milk, please pick some up on the way home", as its NONE OF THEIR BUSINESS.
Lets see, this is year 2 of a product line from a company that thinks decades out ( Microsoft may be slow, but they do have their long term strategies well planned out ). They have the time and money to keep doing this at a near loss for years.
You cant call something a success or failure at this stage of the game.
Now if we went totally outside the boundaries of the earth, and added a *new* object ( say a deep space probe ) to intersect those photons then we might have something real to debate.
Tks for finding the #'s for me ( might have been in later pages of the article, but it bombed out on me on page 1 )
To your comments:
1 - Way too expensive 2 - Deal killer which will cause a #3 fiasco
Ill stick with using my newton a while longer it seems. Modern PDA's while nice, are just too small to read a book comfortably. And most laptops, well just too big for just reading books..
It didnt mention how much the device was, if its $500 bucks then its silly even if books are 8 dollars or less.
Can i backup my books locally on my PC forever, or are we going to have another fiasco where down the road amazon pulls the plug and i lose access to all the content i bought?
Can i load my own books in PDF format onto this thing ?
How many of their users will even know this happened? Enough to put a dent in them? without a doubt. Enough to put them out of business? I donno.. lots of uninformed people out there.
Once the government decides its a 'right' to have wifi just like police services, us middle-class folk will be stuck with the bill. ( but i do agree with you )
Although i was joking ( mostly ) to do what you propose you would have to strap the phone down to something sturdy like the dashboard, and not in one of those cute 'holsters' in order to get a accurate transferral of vibration.
Tossing it on the passenger seat wont work either.
I want to see you shake your bluetooth enabled car so you can sync with your phone, or spend the time shaking your keyboard and mouse ( and not look like an idiot ).
I can see a PDA getting loose during shaking and sending it flying under a bus. *crunch*
Eventually i think it will become another utility like water or sewer or trash pickup, paid for by yet another line item on your local taxes.. That way the government can claim 'the basic human right of wifi to our constituents' and the ISP/Telcos can make guaranteed money. ( x$ per house in the area regardless of your intent to use, much like schools do now in many areas )

Right.

Lets see, they are selling lots of them, and slowly gaining market penetration. I don't see that as a 'failure'.
Hey, im bored today lets track down soandso and see where that hot girl is today.
Um, excuse me i PAID for my bandwidth, i have a right to use it however i feel, as long as its legal.
Mr Cuban, you can simply goto hell.
Too bad its tied back to the industry, as a free and easy to setup network monitoring tool like that would be nice.
I thought TOR was mostly to hide your identity, not the data.
FreeNet is more about hiding the data.
But moving out of state is an option.
Then why do i get yelled at if i use my puny 10 mb download that my ISP advertises?

Not having properly balanced tires?

Mp3 players and PC's are not 'old tech'.
Geesh todays kids and their throwaway mentality.
That is my thought too, just hope this doesn't happen to be the one of 100000 where they DO have actual evidence.
That is why you shouldn't use other companies 'tool kits'. You never know what garbage they have introduced, nor can you do anything about it.
They want to either be or control everything on the planet.
