  1. pretty dangerous on £10,000 Prize for Linux Virus Challenge Re-Issued · · Score: 1

It has been said already, but I think this is a pretty dangerous undertaking, it has been a few years now but there has been a pretty bad *IX worm out there.
It exploited secrurity holes in Bind and some other projects wich where (like Code Red and Nimda) known a FEW MONTHS before the worm came out.
The only reason why this hasn't happened to *UX systems lately is because a) Most scripy kiddies hate windowze systems b) because we (the *IX admins) have something to prove (the superiority of "our" system) we PATCH.
BUT since linux is becoming more and more mainstream and used more and more at homes as small file servers or as internet routers and the sort a worm could have some devestating effects.
My 2 cts (BTW I am not defending Microsoft here)

  2. We have something.... on Open Source Software in a Windows Environment? · · Score: 2

I work at a pretty big company, about 7 locations all over europe and canada. We have a running windows nt 4 network and we replaced all the DNS servers with Redhat, this was pretty painless. We are currently investigating replacing our IIS servers with apache and possibly our VPN servers with PoPtOp.
It isn't much (yet) but I am pretty fanatic about migrating more and more so, we probably will have more open source software.
I must say replacing office with staroffice is pretty impressive. How did your users react?

  3. JEEZ on DoJ Supports Dismissal of Felten v. RIAA Case · · Score: 1

I haven't found anything about SSSCA (mind giving me a more exact URL?) on their site but I DID find something else: These new anti-terrorist "privacy" laws...
"make it possible to obtain e-mail message header information, Internet user web browsing patterns, and "stored" voicemail without a wiretap order"
IMHO this would mean that (as I try to do on most sites) you use web anonymizers and try to leave as little information about yourself as possible (just to avoid spam basically) you can easily become a suspect because you "cover your tracks"

  4. No, not really on DoJ Supports Dismissal of Felten v. RIAA Case · · Score: 1

Isn't it true that the all "new" DMCA (or compatible) will somehow outlaw free OSses by requirering some commercial/propriatary encryption library (wich ,of course, will not be available to Free software) I am not 100% certain of this but I heard some rumors about this. This all starts to look like "taliban law", in a few years the "big players" will enforce a rule that we all have to beard to read our PGP signed mail, or need to pray in the direction of Redmond not to violate some kind of EULA... -

I wonder what they think off next... protecting "the right to encrypt" in the constitution?? punished by the death scentense? *sigh* sorry for the poor spelling/grammer
