  5. GNU, Not Unix on Slashback: Drives, Errors, Copyright · · Score: 1

It shouldn't be called GNU/HURD or anything because GNU was originally the name of the entire OS, "GNU is Not Unix". Not the name of a software group, that name is "the Free Software Foundation".
Linux was used in GNU because the GNU people made an almost OS, the only thing they where missing was a kernel, which Linus made.
So there are 2 names possible here: just plain old "GNU" or maybe "DEBIAN GNU" (as the in SuSE Linux)

To top this all off : a quote from the GNU homepage : Welcome to the GNU Project web server, www.gnu.org. The GNU Project was launched in 1984 to develop a complete Unix-like operating system which is free software: the GNU system. (GNU is a recursive acronym for ``GNU's Not Unix''; it is pronounced "guh-NEW".) Variants of the GNU operating system, which use the kernel Linux, are now widely used; though these systems are often referred to as ``Linux'', they are more accurately called GNU/Linux systems.

We (at linux here) don't have that problem because every distributer has the source to all apps and can recomile if needed, plus that home-users (ok maybe the power users) can do this themselves when they have this really cool space invaders clone written in 1992 that they want to run on glibc10.90

I really think AMD will have te expect some problems with this. Back in the good old days (r) of the pentium and the cyrix 6x86 I worked in a computer store and we also sold cyrix computers to customers that didn't want too spend too much money (so sue me)
Very often people came back because they saw that their Cyrix PR200+ wasn't actually running on 200Mhz and demanded a refund (which they didn't get ofcourse) we had to explain the whole thing and it costed us a lot of time
That's why we stopped selling them back then

I quote ?If the current version of the USA Act becomes law, the RIAA believes, it could outlaw attempts by copyright holders to break into and disable pirate FTP or websites or peer-to-peer networks.?
I am sorry but isn?t that outlawed already? I really think the RIAA is going to far this time, because IMHO they are abusing the situation to legalize something that?s illegal already!!
Plus what if they succeed? And they do actually delete all files on your hard drive (as pointed out in the article) where can you go and claim your money?? Who can you sue? I think that (for now) using this patch on workstations is a pretty good idea. And I think that there should be a better solution for the problem witch should THEN be something along the lines of kernel 3.0
