  1. Re:Getting ahead of yourself on Computer For a Child? · · Score: 1

I setup a computer for my oldest daughter right around when she turned two. I used a bunch of old parts that I had on hand, so if she trashed the keyboard I could just grab another spare. I also used a CRT monitor as they hold up under the abuse a bit better. I used a mouse driver that treated left and right clicks as left clicks. She was able to pick up double-clicking on the icons on the desktop pretty quickly. I went with Windows 98 for all the $3 value edu-tainment titles, and ripped them all to disk images that would be auto-mounted when she clicked on the icons. She was able to do some of the simple toddler edu-tainment games on her own after just a few sessions. She was born with Erb's palsy, so using the mouse was actually part of her physical therapy to help with fine motor skills. It was one of the best activities to keep her improving because she WANTED to do it, as opposed to some of the PT exercises that were boring. All of our kids since then have started getting interested in it around the same time. My third daughter surprised us by turning on the computer and then climbing up in the chair to look at the monitor before she was even 18 months old. We still had to start babysmash for her, as she doesn't quite have that down.

The other big plus for SAP was their upgrade attitude "We understand that most of our customers want to upgrade their core ERP around every 8-12 years, on a Saturday afternoon" :)
And if you really believe that, I've got this lovely bridge to sell you. Try 6 months of a conference room filled with very expensive consultants to do an upgrade and you'll be closer to the mark.

    * Time-of-day call ignore. Are you in a meeting for a certain time? Have lectures or classes? Doctors appointment? Your phone should automatically go into a silent mode (and kick over to the answering machine). Why let yourself be the point of failure?

The SMT5600 has a Meeting mode where it will switch in and out of silent mode based on there being a meeting on the calendar.

Its been a while since I've used PHP, but I don't remember anything equivalent to the DataGrid control in PHP. That control alone has cut weeks off some development projects since we've switched to .NET, as most of the projects I currently work on are all database driven.

Actually, cutting the notch on a 5-1/4" disk would turn it into a "flippy", where you could flip it over and use the other side in a single-sided drive. 360k 5-1/4" drives were already double sided. It did not trick the drive into thinking that double density media (360k) was high density (1.2MB).

Unless a DVD player was designed specifically to read CD-R media, it won't. A lot of older players were not. However, most of the ones that I've run across that won't read CD-R will still read CD-RW.
