  1. Re:10 Danish Crowns?!! on All schools In Denmark switching to Linux · · Score: 1

Oh, pooh! It wasn't a "moron" and a retarded chimp. It was a spineless wimp and a retarded chimp. But the real issue here is, Denmark is joining the good fight against the Troll of Redmond. For that, and that alone, I will personally think happy thoughts about their king everytime I have one of their pastries with my coffee!

  2. Re:It's a problem if Ashcroft's anywhere near it.. on Politicizing Science · · Score: 1

So therefore . . . what? It's OK if a gaggle of Ashcroftian Flat_Earthers decide which scientific truths are acceptable for the nation? How many of the fine gentlemen mentioned in your roster would poo-poo the callous manipulation of scientific research for political and religious ends? Would Einstein, do you think, have just shrugged it off? And Newton, do you think he would have sat quietly while the pea-brained President and his Lysenkoist handlers nudged science down a "faith-based"path? Lysenko, of course, who didn't believe in God, would have been right at home with the dweebs of Shrub's administration. The issue is not -- and ought not to be -- whether a person believes in a Creator. The issue is, and ought to be, whether a person has the integrity to be objective in matters of science. Granted there are a lot of atheists who wouldn't pass that test. (And among them may be some of the corporate profiteers that Bush is putting on these boards.)

  3. Re:Senator Biden is my Senator on Sneaking DRM Amendments Through the Back Door · · Score: 1

True -- but I really wish it wasn't. The only opinions that matter to these "leaders" are the opinions that come from money. And there doesn't seem to be one damned voice on Capital Hill that cares a damn about the rest of us. Copywright protections, originally intended to protect and promote development and discovery, have been mutated by Fritz Hollings, Joe Biden and the rest to protect money, to promote the greater centralization of profit, and to allow organizations like MIAA to stifle creative tech developments. I used to think Hollings was an enlightened Southern Senator. And -- gaaaack!! -- I actually fumed and cried when Dukakis shafted Biden's run for the presidency. What in hell was I thinking?

  4. Hollings and the Whores of Congress on MPAA vs. Television · · Score: 1

If the Carriage and Buggy industry had been able to get the senatorial ancestors of Fritz (the Shitz) Hollings in their back pockets in the 19th century, there'd be as much horseshit on our roads today as there is bullshit in the Halls of Congress. What's amazing is just how brazenly unprincipled these sell-outs are, and even more amazing is how they manage to get elected and, worse, re-elected. The frightening thing about all of this is that the whores are going to get their way, the industry fat-asses will get their laws, and the rest of us poor saps will either have to shut the hell up or be vilified as pro-terrorist crypto-traitors. I'd head to the hills -- but the fat cats and politicians have probably already bought and branded them.

  5. Re:Ohh, even better... on "The Chronicles of Amber" and "The Forever War" For TV · · Score: 1

Couldn't resist a chance to join in the fun. Battlestar was less than a Mormon Myth rip-off -- and that's saying something. I get peeved thinking about it. A couple of real pulp sf guys good have turned that into a grand space opera. Somebody like Harlan Ellison could have made it a fascinating and painful look at human nature under incredible stress.

As it turned out, the series was worse than Disney-Eisner's lowest brand of G-rated pap. Christ, all of humanity adrift in space in ships short of supplies and with no destination known. And the writers sit around, asses filled with their thumbs, thinking "Gee, how can we find stories in that premise?" And what do they come up with? Dirkie babe trying to broker a deal with a tri-breasted female rock singing group.

Why the pee would sci-fi even want to dredge that offal up?

Right on the mark! Assscroft is one cynical weanie using the catastrophe as a way to create a wide-open and untrammeled power base for himself. His feelings, I guess, are that if you share his publicly espoused "born again and saved unlike those unwashed goddamned liberals and gays" Christianity, you won't mind giving up a little liberty. And, of course, if you don't share his religious beliefs, you can, he sincerely believes, go to hell.

He and the rest of the damned adminstration are turning a "war against terrorism" into a domestic war against hackers, internet gambling and -- bet this one slipped by a lot of you -- gay marriages!

And 1 person voted against this bill in committee!? That's as revolting as anything that's happened since September 10th.
