Heh... I bought a couple of those magnets on a website that tells you not to buy them because they'll hurt you. They're all kinds of fun.
I can't take them in my computer room. Monitors distort from over 3 feet away. On the plus side, I can mess with my roommate from the other room:P
They're also fun to try to take apart. Oh, wait, I mean impossible. I got them within 6 inches of eachother once when I was gesturing with them while talking, and they picked up a keyring and caught my finger. Luckily the keyring sacrificed itself to save my finger, it was almost bent in half. I got my finger out. Then one of my he-man friends wanted to try getting them apart. I gave them to him and looked around for my car keys so I could drive him to the hospital. He was eventually able to move them a couple millimeters by shearing them, but then the keyring popped out, and they caught the web between his thumb and index finger. Once he got the courage to pull it out from between them, we got to watch it turn black in under a minute:)
The magnets are still stuck together. I'm afraid to take any tools to them, since they're ceramic. Every once in a while some titan thinks he can get them apart. Unfortunately they've all walked away chastened but whole. I'm still waiting to have a finger stuck between 2 magnets instead of just 2 magnets:P
This, a post that describes what the rich do for the poor (finance building a house they couldn't build, making museums and libraries they would never think to make, and then helping them enjoy all three), and why the poor are the way they are, stays at 0, and the parent, a piece of trash that explains that life is shit with an end goal to work toward of death and maybe reproducing is modded to 5? What the fuck? Man, I used to think that all those morons posting that shit on Slashdot were the minority, turns out they're a majority!
Fuck you. I hope you achieve your shit life. And fuck Slashdot, I'm done here.
First off, Star Trek is a TV show, not reality. Probably not even close to what reality will be. Taking someone's work of fiction and using it to prove a point is beyond ridiculous.
Secondly, although people do have the ability to improve themselves, it's only to a limited extent. I will never, ever be able to uproot a tree with my bare hands. I will never, ever be able to memorize every book ever written.
Along those same lines, some people will never, ever be able to understand calculus, no matter how hard they try. When or if manual labor / retail jobs are replaced by robots, those people are basically SOL. You can't just fire someone from BK and tell them to go build a better robot.
The fact is, a great many people are stupid. I was out of work for about 3 months, and eventually had to break down and work in a factory for the 4 months after that it took me to find a decent job. Those people would be straight fucked if there were no manual labor jobs. As it is, they barely had the brains to do what they were doing. It wasn't just an environment thing either. I watched them fail to pick up on basic concepts, over and over and over again. They were stupid, and there's no way to sugarcoat it.
That having been said, I don't think we should support them if they're unable to support themselves. Unfortunately, if they weren't supported, those of us able to think would be forced to live behind high walls because of the rampant crime, rioting, maybe even revolt. It's a sticky problem, but I don't have an answer for it.
No, it wasn't a troll, although it was somewhat tongue-in-cheek. I'm not sure what zila is, but although it was a joke, that is a communist idea. The root word of communist (commune) will tell you why. Communes do not work in reality, paying for what you use and getting paid for what you provide does work. I forsee unsurmountable problems with getting a system like that to work on a large scale.
<pedantic> Copy a 250GB drive in 1/4sec
You mean 2 seconds, right? 1.5k byte packets at 670 million/sec
You mean 1.5k bit, right? 2 billion x 50 byte packets per sec
You mean 500 million, right?

AC's have an irrestible urge to point out idiot's tactics in the hopes that the greater idiots that the idiot is fooling will see the light, because the AC is jealous that the idiot got the idiots' recognition without actually exerting effort or helping the idiots instead of the AC getting the idiots' recognition, no matter how hard he has worked in the past.
This is proven by the fact that the AC is an AC. The AC does not wish to recieve a flamebait moderation with their account. I welcome your flamebait moderation. Mod points and 800 combo boxes on one screen slow my browser at work to a crawl, and I never bother anyway unless I see someone requesting moderation. I give people exactly what they request in that case.
I'm on lots of codiene. Don't wait to have your wisdom teeth pulled, kids, or you'll end up making insane posts like this one on slashdot when they become impacted!
No, make the hardware faster. How do other networks do it? Do they make electrons go faster? Nah. Electrons (well, not electrons, but the electrical charge) travel at nearly the speed of light, so on a perfect network you would be able to get a ping from one side of the world and back again in around 9/100ths of a second. The problem is the amount of processing that goes into the construction/extraction/switching of the packets.
Forget that. I'll never buy into it. My computer does my work, no one else's. If I need more processing power, I'll buy or rent it. I think most people feel the same way. Unless they're dirty hippies or communists.
Relative movements are nearly impossible to certian about. What happens when a packet is dropped? Any relative movements are then worthless. You would have to use a protocol like TCP or add on verification and retransmission to UDP, which would make lag and bandwidth usage much worse.
The best way to lower bandwidth I can think of is dividing the play area up into chunks. If a player moves to a new chunk of the map, send an update. Otherwise, just send the offset to the current chunk. Perform some sanity checks when a new chunk is specified, and whee!
But then again, bandwidth really isn't that much of a problem in online games, unless you're playing on a modem or running the server. The main problems are latency and packet loss. Both of these are only really solved with a good network, anything else is just a hack, and is going to be both exploitable and have pretty steep diminshing returns.
I'm not sure if this is coming out sane or not, I have an impacted wisdom tooth and took 4 codeine about an hour ago. Blooooooooooooooooooooo!!! My brain just crawled out of my head and is taking a break on my eyebrows.

We came here, we beat them because we were superior (technologically or genetically I don't care, one way or the other you can't argue it wasn't true), now we own their country.
It's a bit different now. By allowing inferior people in and taking care of them, and again, technologically or genetically it doesn't matter, if it's a matter of environment they still won't be productive people for 3 generations, we are spending ourselves.
Call it racism if you want, but people are NOT created equal, and I didn't have anything to do with taking the NA's land away from them, nor do I feel guilt for my great-great-great-great-great grandfather doing it.
That's great, but I have an established .net domain. If I need to admin that domain, I need to go to a verisign site.
Frustrating users is not the way to deal with this.
Unfortunately, no matter how much coke you hoot, it'll never make you able to spell it.
What the heck does Jim Carey and Burt Reynolds have to do with Kevin Bacon?
No. You're transparent, and you give everyone who actually IS concerned about free speach a bad name.
I suppose you're also religous, just in case?
Most speakers today have a hard time playing tones below 22Hz. How did he manage it way back then?
Make sure to put the speaker directly underneath her chair.

I'd have to say you suck at Linux. I stopped getting that stuff after my first month of working with it.

Buahahaha! Agreed.
