  1. Re:Queue the Transactions on Redundant Credit Card Processing Solution? · · Score: 1

Bad idea. Not allowed by Visa/Mastercard anymore unless you are one of their certified gateways. My company looked into doing this, it was going to cost over 10k in fees alone.

  2. Make them a 'guest' on Protecting Our Parents' PCs? · · Score: 2, Insightful

I start by making their account a 'guest'. If I have to be the IT staff policy #1 is don't install/change anything without asking! Thus 'guest' works well.

  3. There is a lot more than just HD cost on Why is Hosted Disk Space So Expensive? · · Score: 5, Insightful

Anyone who has or currently works in the hosting industry knows there is a lot more to the cost of operations than just HD space. Of course, when you use the word, "Datacenter" are you then talking about high-speed SCSI drives in some sort of RAID array? With that, even HD's can get expensive. Colo is the way to go, just setup a cheap server with big IDE drives and maybe an ARAID or something and get someone to stick it in their room for $200 a month.

  4. 5.7 GHz and 2.4 GHz compaired on 2.4ghz vs. 5.7ghz Wireless Broadband? · · Score: 1, Informative

I worked with a company called Com-Pair Services that offers wireless Internet. Check it out at www.com-pair.net . We used 5.7 GHz for the backbone links and 2.4 GHz for the links from our repeater to our clients. There is no danger of course with any of this as your output is of course below FCC standards (a few mill watts). The 5.7 offered a greater bandwidth but at a higher cost. The greatest challenges we faced were the control of clients 'talking'. As the number of customers grew, we found they would try to talk at the same time with the main access point and essentially collide. We solved the problem by using highly modified Mac Airports on the clients end. Anyway the company above does provided turnkey 5.7 GHz links.
