I wonder, can aspiring, clever groups of artists and hackers reverse engineer HSS to tell them what components of hit songs make those songs popular? If so, they could use that info to create hit song after hit song, simply by reusing and re-mixing the best parts of popular songs. Easy money.
Yeah, tone does not carry in either email or forum posts. I could have used [funny]...[/funny] tags, but making it so obvious would have negated my attempt at dry wit and ruined my chances of earning that hallowed 5 Funny mod. Oh well, back to the drawing board...
When presented with the facts, it's clear which machine is superior and which machine is using latent technology.
Cuz we all know that CPU MGz is the defining performance factor, and that theoretical polygon count is the same as actual polygon count.
Currently the Xbox has the most power, but the least utility.
Define "utility".
nobody has really pushed the box to it's limits in a game
Let me guess, Microsoft told you that?
I actually own both consoles. Yes, Xbox wins out graphically, but not by leaps and bounds. PS2's only flaw is its poor texturing ability and lack of hardware shaders for surface effects. But good devs like Naughty Dog and Rockstar (with GTA:VC) are coming up with some nice software graphical implementations. And in the end, it really is about the games, and PS2 continues to dominate in that respect, although Xbox is slowly getting better.
IBM is making the PS3 CPU as well - the Cell. Derivatives of the Cell will also be used in other devices from both Sony and IBM. GC's PPC-based CPU has little to do with this joint venture b/t IBM & Sony.
Just pulled up WXP, IE6, and hit Tools\WinUpdate, and got this message from the site:
"Sorry, we were unable to service your request. As an option, you may visit any of the pages below for information about Microsoft services and products."
First time I've seen that. I wonder if MS saw this thread and pulled WinUpdate so they could make sure the privacy messages and Eula have their legal asses are covered.
Something tells me that people who base their decision to be a software developer on how that is portrayed in Hollywood movies probably don't have the clarity and objectivity of mind required to make it in the field anyway.
I respect your convictions, but question the need for Hollywood-contrived heros to constantly affirm them. Do your convictions fail to hold up without such emotional support?
Also, do you believe that the media's motives are truly to affirm your deep convictions? I question their sincerity, and believe there may be some ulterior motives.
I also think such hero-worship oversimplifies reality. It's nice to escape to black-and-white/good-and-evil hero-worship for a few hours, as long as people don't project that simplicity into their views of the real world. It then becomes too easy to accept what politicans, of both sides of the spectrum, try to make us believe.
I don't understand this need for heros, if indeed it truly exists. Does anyone else find the thought that Americans are so frail and weak minded that we need heros to comfort/inspire/nurture/motivate/whatever us, to be somewhat pathetic? I do. In fact, I don't think Americans are as weak as the media and Hollywood (and even some politicians) would like to believe. Todd Beamer & co. certainly weren't, and there are plenty more where they came from. I think some would like Americans to believe we are weak, for whatever private reasons they may harbor, so they shove this ridiculous neediness down our throats every chance they get. It disgusts me, and I hope I'm not alone in that sentiment.
I was a noob PHP programmer several months ago. With this book combined with the downloadable HTML references at php.org and mysql.net, I learned it in no time. This book makes a great supplement to the official references b/c it provides a plethora of examples that demonstrate how to do certain techniques that are not always readily apparent.
I converted from PC to console gaming about a year ago for all the reasons you stated. PC gaming just doesn't make sense anymore, especially with consoles going online. And I'm not so fastidious as to bitch about the precision advantage a mouse and keyboard afford over a controller. Halo, UC, and SOCOM are just as enjoyable to me despite their console controller control system.
No no, the female character arrogantly and ignorantly intiates a series of "bad things" that some precocious children must, and do, overcome while the men provide emotional comfort for their dysfunctional-family-scarred psyche's. Oh, and the men also provide the token arrogant, ignorant, and ultimately dead lawyer.
I was curious enough to try anti-leech.com, with an unexpected yet illuminating result.
Load the page in Mozilla with "Open Unrequested Windows" disabled, and get a short message saying I'm not allowed to view the page b/c I'm using a pop-up blocker.
I disable Mozilla's popup blocker and load the page again. This time I get the anti-leech.com home page, along with the expected pop-up ad. Lo and behold, the popup ad is advertising Cable TV Descramblers.
So let me get this straight. They want me to stop stealing from them by using a popup blocker so they can try to sell me a way to steal from cable companies using a descrambler.
uhmmm, riiiiight. If you're going to be a hypocrit, at least try to be clever about it.
Wouldn't they need to actually make a game out of it, instead of just going around saying or shouting "MarioKart Online"? ;0

You have a world champion beating chessplayer right on your desktop! Great. As if Chessmaster doesn't already kick my ass badly enough...
Thanks for the link, but I know about it already. That was supposed to be funny, not interesting, but I guess I didn't phrase it well.
Sounds like MSN 8... Hope Sony's not going to get sued by MS for trademark infringement.

In that case, your thoughts on the matter are reassuring. Hopefully, everyone else is as grounded as you are.

I'll be sure to take your comments into consideration, Coward.

I use Xbox and PS2 as my gaming platforms, but W2k supports DX fine in my experience.

Your English sounds perfect to me, judging from that post.
