Maybe I'm not as stylish and fashionable as the next guy... I just ditch all cases and have got three nails in a piece of wood which I stick CDs on. Works quite well :) Only problem is getting the bottom one out...

Let's say you have this 144 petabyte drive. Okay it's friday, time to back up.

So you whip out your two hundred million cd recordables, and start inserting them. Let's say you get 1 frisbee for each 25 700Mb CDs.

This leaves you with eight million frisbees.

    That's a stack 13 kilometres high.

So who needs this on a desktop OS again?

I haven't personally tried OS X, so I don't know about how the multi user stuff fits together, but presumably you need to be running as root to install this (or trash your hd, for that matter). Shouldn't there be a way to install some apps without being root? Seems to me that having the user root by default is a bad strategy in terms of apps going evil, viruses, etc... this OS is not targeted at security-conscious people.

Okay, forget for a second that, as was said above, the injunction is just not going to happen. The big friendly media companies say they'll get one, so let's believe them. What does a rational consumer do?

Buys one of these things immediately of course! <cliche>If all of /. bought one then it would a) piss off the media people, b) give the company some more money to fight this etc<cliche> OTOH it's all very well for me in NZ as I can't buy one...
