  1. Re:this is simple on AU Gov't Still Wants ISPs To Solve Illegal Downloads · · Score: 1

yup, for me, that's the point. It doesn't matter if a pirate doesn't make a cent from their piracy, what matters is when the pirate has it easier than the creator. It is not right for sometime to enjoy a creator's work when the creator is *really* struggling, and the pirate is not. For the same reason, I support free use of electronic materials for students, the third world etc.

There is a trivial way to resolve illegal downloading.

    Legalize it.

This view is immoral and greedy. I know this view point is not popular here - often with good reason when you consider the behavior of copyright holders. BUT, when the pirates downloading copyrighted content earn more money than the creators (as occurs with many eBooks for example), then the people enjoying that content have a moral obligation to ensure that the creators of the content are paid at least something for it. I can't see the moral problems with people downloading free copies of Harry Potter books - Rowling is fabulously rich. But what about when you download someone's book, enjoy it, and you earn more money than them... to say you want this right by law is outright greed.

Anyone going to Mars would be paid a salary from NASA - and I'd guess an extremely high one. Also, they could charge whatever they could charge for interviews with media and for research from other interested parties. With luck, if they managed to live for more than a few years, they (and their families) would become very rich and perhaps very powerful. Perhaps powerful enough to pay for their own ticket home.

You manage to contradict yourself in just two sentences. As you agree that Ebonics has a defined grammar and vocab, then it is proper language use.

  6. Adblock changed how I see the web on The Morality of Web Advertisement Blocking · · Score: 1

I use adblock to block every ad that I can. I've done this for so long now, that when I recently ran IE, I realised my whole view of the web had changed. Under IE, the web is slow, full of sound, glittery lights and irrelevant moving pictures. Compare this the view I usually get of quick loading pages that only contain the information I was looking for.

  7. Re:This is the sort of thing OS needs to focus on on New Failsafe Graphics Mode For Ubuntu · · Score: 1

I completely agree - because I needed exactly this feature. I installed ubuntu a month or two ago, and tried to install the nvidia drivers. It killed my GUI - and even though I, as a slightly educated computer user, knew that linux was fine, I had no idea about how to get the gui going again. For example, I didn't know the name of xwindows, and I couldn't start my browser to get help. This experience made me realize that if I had been using ubuntu as my sole OS, I would have been in trouble. I'm sure the command line is great, but things like a special recovery window really help users like me get started. It seems to me that many linux users are offended by people using their OS who don't really know what they are doing, and who do things in dumb way. I'm that kind of user, I like ubuntu because I can tell they have embraced users like me.

Microwave ovens with two dials - one for time and one for power, are easy to use. Our digital one is complex to use, and then beeps every minute until you open the door to tell it to shut up. I had to open it up and disconnect the speaker.
