  1. The /. crowd doesn't seem to get it... on New Aircraft is Part Blimp and Part Airplane · · Score: 0

So many people with nothing better to do than to speculate on why this thing would fail.

A machine that can move cargo overseas to inland destinations, bypassing ports, has the potential to completely alter how goods are shipped. Yes, that would require adjustments in how ports of entry for cargo are handled in most countries, but hey, its not like our ports are so damn secure here in the US that we have some great system that'd have to be re-developed.

Bottom line: If this thing has the potential to be faster than a container ship (and a cargo truck for that matter) and cheaper than a jet, how can anyone but a fool not think that could be valuable?

And as for passenger use: if I could travel overseas in cruise ship style accomodations at a fraction of the cost of business class air fare, and at 2 - 3 times the speed of a cruise ship, I might not mind tacking on an extra day or so of travel time.

David Brin and a couple of other sci-fi writers have speculated about how devices of this nature could take over a lot of the traditional transportation sectors. Scoff if you will, but these chaps might be onto something.

  2. Re:Kettlebell workout on Getting Back Into Shape While At The Office? · · Score: 0

    I've been using a 16kg kettlebell for about 6 weeks now. I average 4 20-40 min workouts a week).

I enjoy the workout and have gotten good results. I've trimmed an inch or so off the old spare tire and hope to do more. I have, at no point, compromised my diet consisting mostly of milkfat and beer.

Its a very convenient workout compared to the time it takes to go to the gym, run, etc. It takes up next to no space in my rather small home.

In short (too late) I second the recommendation.

Look people, you believed them when 3 years ago when they told you you were going to be the richest generation ever ... that you were 'born at the right time' ... that things were great and only getting better. We bought it all and they were WRONG! Now they're telling you you're irrepairably screwed ... that you don't stand a chance ... that you were doomed from the start... What makes you think they're getting it right this time? Here's a little secret: THEY AREN'T. THEY ARE WRONG AGAIN!

  5. It'll come down to follow through on Apple releases iPod · · Score: 1

Apple's success with this device will be defined by what the follow it up with. This device has some interesting features and a price tag at the high end of the MP3 player spectrum. Combined with a set of complementary offerings the idea of a home media/data/communications/entertainment system based on Apple products becomes an attractive, if expensive, proposition.
